usual upfront disclaimer: this is essentially a public journal.
Super disclaimer: This ones even more incoherent than usual
I never promised I'd make regular blog posts but the whole idea was to keep myself responsible. So here I am. Blog posting.
In the interim I worked on projects.
mech among men for which I commissioned some art and decided to put the project on hiatus.
and a new helicopter arcade game set in hell that I am very much considering putting on hiatus.
I bemoaned to a friend that all I seem to be able to do is put projects on ice but he told me maybe its them not me. Maybe I have haven't found my one yet. The projects I have worked on most recently are: a horror game, a genre of which I never really play, and a helicopter arcade game, another which I also never play.
So what do I play? What would keep my interest? Lets break it down.
This year I've played the following the most (unordered):
- Battle Brothers
- Bannerlord
- Various table top wargames (40k, heresy, old world)
- CTA: GOH Ostfront
- Vintage story
- Minecraft
- Escape From Tarkov PVE
- Marvel Rivals
- Balatro (Also got me into real life poker)
Of these I'm unlikely to play Rivals much in the future. Same with tarkov honestly. I really tend to play strategy single player games or more immersive strategic wargames.
The games I've played the most in my life, outside of just this year (besides minecraft, kid me has thousands of hours) tend to be strategy games, usually war games preferably with good progression. Civ V, Stellaris, Warhammer III, GOH, Bannerlord and others. I also tend to enjoy rpgs where I feel connected to an immersive world with good story telling: fallout new vegas, dont need any other examples.
So what is to be concluded? Taking into consideration the games I've played before and the ones I've enjoyed most recently. Continually I enjoy games that have strategy, progression, and immersion. Those three things can be interpreted in a number of ways but I believe to be my core tenants.
Things I enjoy games to have but aren't tenants are:
- Having troops to command and modify as much as I want, I love recruiting a less than dirt peon and have them go on to become an elite knight. Since GW doesn't seem to want to a make a money printer, being able to design your own genetic modified soldiers up to creating pseudo primarchs would be hella rad.
- Progressing from nothing has also been something I love, being able to build my self up. A campaign system goes with this, ala stellaris or GOH's campaign.
- This is a weird one but I like customizing my little dudes and their equipment, even designing and building my own in games is something I really like.
While my helicopter game is cool in concept, a Vietnam pilot is made to fight demons in hell, Its mostly just a cool idea. I'll keep my horror game on the back burner though. Both will be really.
all of this has just been brain spewage to try and get a grasp on a project I would like to do, I recently had oral surgery and I took some pain killers on an empty stomach. Made me a little nauseous. Its either that or the gas leak causing the incoherence.
