Here's a few hints if you're getting stuck:

• If you don't like something you've gotten, try giving it back.
• There's more to some rooms than meets the eye. If you're stuck, poke around a bit, examine your surroundings.
• You can combine some items by first selecting an item -- either via your inventory, or the most recent item button -- clicking on the inventory button, and then selecting a second item. ( You can also select the second item by first clicking on Alice, and then clicking the combine (+) action from the radial menu. )
