Progress Sticky

Do we have a topic for progress? Do we post progress or game logs? It’s rather motivating, I believe.

For me, well, this is my second game jam in my life, finished the other this year, even though I’m a man in my middle 40s. Always found making comics and writing fiction easier, until I stumbled across GB Studio and made two Game Boy games and then adapted one of my comics to this medium.

Anyway, I’m working on a visual novel with only minor choice possibilities. It falls within the comic aesthetic with distinct manga influences - partially due to the limitation of the Game Boy medium, partially because I like it this way.

And here is a screen from the game - you probably grasp the idea of a MacGuffin. It is, in way. A plot device. Share your own progress?

3/4/22

3rd- ish Jam I've been in. Have been in and have done some other Jams but have not finished or even started some of them, procrastination and all that, also doing short Jams when I'm still beginner is not good at all. Hopefully I'll finish this one, if not at least it's a good spring board for making other things. Been looking for a engine to do a CYOA with and I think I found it in Ren'py. Wanted to do it in Godot but I'm still learning how to use it's dialog systems and such, it's a pain imo, I know how to make a Json. O.0 I don't think Ren'py will be hard to learn tbh.

So I'm making a CYOA visual novel with a cute mspaint like artstyle with a dark twist, violent and bloody game over screens. Dying in CYOA's have always been fun, and this should be no exception. As for the plot... uhhh I'm still working on that, all I have is a about having to slay a dragon and there is some kind of time loop shenanigans going on? I'm working on sprites right now, I'll think up a good plot by then I think.

Anyway here is the best reaper, your friend Shiba Chan. Tried the normal Shiba Inu browns but I'm really digging the pink at the moment. I dunno what do you think? Was also using the rt2 color pallet for some reason, maybe it's the nostalgia or something.

Btw, no doggos will be harmed in the making of this and yes you will be able to pet the dog.

Doggos are always good to have. I personally had hamsters ;)

I joined this jam so I could focus on improving my art skills. I can handle coding and writing, i'll just make a short and silly visual novel. So far my progress is just doodling and figuring out stuff for in-game sprites. I'll need to draw just a handful of poses so it shouldn't be very difficult. The links to said progress:

Dev Day 2: [1]

Dev Day 3: [1]

Dev Day 4: [1] [2]

(i'm taking things a little slow, since there's still plenty of time but hopefully I won't be lazy too much p)

Here we go again. I’m almost sure I’ll not be able to finish the game within the given timeframe, but I’m not very concerned about it. I’ll have to rewrite the plot paths at that moment. SO far I have one ending (the speedrun path, one choice - one down) and coded two meetings with meaningful dialogues. SO that is not as much as I expected to come up with by this time.

Anyway, here are a few screens to share. The characters were designed by my daughter, while the backgrounds are made by me - mostly based on photos I did in my area.

First jam here, Ive always wanted to make a game and have always loved art so like a VN is a great place to start. Im making a Monster girl dating vn. Ive never made music or done programing but when I watched people doing programming it seemed like something I could understand.  Heres a little sneak peak at the girls that you can date through my main menu picture also the title of my VN
