Lol, sure. 

You can try to do a bunch of challenges that can help you learn some tech, and get better at that tech. Like beating the game with the lowest amount of jumps! Skip the gem! Etc.
You can use the practice mod to practice harder pieces of tech, such as spike clips, or the berry skip in 400m. 

This was the stuff I did to get a little bit better at this game...

Keep in mind, however, that I am not an expert, and my place would be 132nd on speedrun.com if I submitted my time(2:27).
