I've just finished Leo route and I'm just shocked. But I did notice a lot of people saying chase was bad to leo, I know it was kinda mean to live him like that, but I can understand chase and how he couldn't stay in echo and wanted to leave, I mean would you want to live there the town is twisted, plus didn't leo wanted to stay in echo instead of leaving?
I thought that I hate the Leo route just because chase and him didn't have a good closure or broke up, not that thing of braking in the train that feels awfuls and more cuz' they both are in love with each other like True love but then they just broke up like nothing xd I'm pissed for that
WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED IN THIS ROUTEEEEEEEEEEE I didn't expect anything of all the kidnappin' and brian-duke crazyness, WTFFFF It's was so terrifying the brian stuff and how He NEARLY violate chase chocking him and then killing him, It was so scary and gross. (Tysm Sam for saving us)
I love the way Chase act in the route, just the same Chase as carl's route and that's recomfortin' , but jeeeeeze I didn't thought of all the hysteria happening again just like in Flynn's route even it was the same process!! But GOD I love how we look for everybody and how we save them.
With That I REALLY REALLY love Leo (just the sane Leo and the leo without a ghost controlling his guts) and I really think that it's a shame of how his route antagonized him, it's not his fault and nearly everything that he did it was for the sake for all of his friends (Still he went mad and then he messed everything LOL) But Jesus I don't like it, I really hate the final of his good ending, that shit didn't fell like "Good" and I HATE IT cuz the story have everything to make a good ending even if we left Leo behind.
It would be perfect an ending where all of us stayed as friends after seeing all that crap and realizing how we really care about each others (even Flynn cares about TJ, and Jenna cares about Flynn) and then we broke up with Leo but with could AT LEAST took him on the train and then to a therapist. Cuz' This ending of everyone escapin' and then everybody mad at each other (not talkin' to each others like in Carl's ending) feels off and more with all the trauma thing. I Dunno, I really love this game and it have a perfect storytellin'
All I can say is Chase really wasn't loving Leo anymore after seeing what he did and everything that happened he just had to get out of echo and realized Leo would keep him there.
One of the routes has the voices mentioning the day Chase learned what water feels like for everyone else: SUFOCATING. So I thought he and Sydney almost drowned together. But after reading all routes, the only moment Chase nearly drowns is during Carl's route. Are the voices pulling information from alternate timelines?
I think of it like the way Chase got his trauma, it's the way of how he realize what Syd had feel while he was dying, that he was SUFOCATING till he passed out
Ok, now I'm really hoping Chase and Leo get together at the end of Jenna's route. Spoiler:
It's the only route with a heavy focus on Leo where he also fully opens up. We get the whole story on why shadow Chase exists while Leo recognizes it is just his fake idealized version of Chase. Jenna also seems to get more and more annoying with her psychoanalysis BS. We know for a fact that Chase and Leo do love each other, so let those fuckers be together, dammit!
I'm pretty sure the obsession is one sided, I hear ya but I doubt chase cares about Leo all that much, Leo is just a friend and an ex he is trying to avoid
I sympathize with Leo and think he deserves better, but that "better" is most likely a new relationship, chase is an asshole.
I really simphatized with Leo, we just need to think how chase """broke""" with him and then dissapired for 3 years, and then come back and treat Leo like nothing happen. That's awful and really messed up, anybody would act like Flynn towards Chase treatin' him like a liar and bad bf but Leo STILL treat chase like he is some god and a perfection of human being
But I think their pretty messed up, and it would take a lot of work for them to have a healthy relationship now. Not to mention that Chase is pretty put off by what he learned about Leo...
SPOILERS CARLS ROUTE (also TJ and Flynn. I write so much God I'm in love with the game xd)
I just finished Carl's route and I'm feeling like i'm going to explode for all the Roller coaster of emotions.
Firts of all I LOVE the final, It trully feels like a Good ending, my only doubt it's Leo, I wish that he would went with us in all that time traveling shit, so just like that he would be happy with us and he would got rid of him problem (So in this final we could see that at least our group of friends it's better than in any other final, we were 6 and got down to 4/3 depending if Leo had been stayed with us). But I'm kinda sad/disapointed that we didn't see much about sidney, I stan sidney and I love him LOL
AND OMG I'm shocked of how many answers this route gave me, We know that there are 3 o more ghost (james, john and the Socklet face) each of them with their own desires!! And we saw what the hell happened on TJ's route, about Why Chase saw the fox (john) hanging on the forest, why on Flynn's route we saw how the town condemn a person killing it (The haging process of Jonh), Why chase saw a little kid hanging himself in the motel for later saw the socklet/james in the mirror telling him to kill Flynn (I'm guessing that this a clue of the Missing native Kid, and why James said that Echo need secrets)
But still this route feels odd cuz' they never explained wha the hell happened with TJ, even on his route with didn't see what it's his f*ckin' problem, Why TJ attack jenna? Why TJ has that trauma of sidney? And why HE. CAN'T. JUST. SAY. IT?. I really hate TJ in all tge routes, I can't tolerate him xd
I just realized another reason about why I LOVED this route, it feels really good to see how chase is chase (baing himself and not a f*ckin' murderer or a crazy dude), and watch how he get rid of all the problem around him and hia group (I like the way the crazy people here is Jenna and carl but not chase). Another reason it's how he REALLY did his project, not like in TJ's route where he didn't give a crap about his study.
Pd: I really love Raven, he is one of the highlights of carl route, it's not like daxton or the stupid deer, he is REALLY supportive, wise and useful in the story, that and I wish they had a final where Leo it's with us.
Pd.2: That f*cking creepy/horror/screamer laugh on the night killed me, I wasn't ready for it and I spilled my soul to heaven at the moment it just scared me. I hate it and I love it.
On TJ route we got the confirmation that Chase killed Sidney, but why? On that route it looks like Chase is super protective with TJ and that's why he just killed Flynn when there was 'danger' (and i bet he would've killed even the Deer guy if he could), but when they were kids he didnt seem to be so obsessed with TJ (i believe it's because of Echo that he was acting that weird) and he doesn't seem to hate Sidney that much, so why did he actually killed him? And who tf did the whole treasure hunt? Was Socket Monster (Flynn)?, it couldn't be anyone on the group but Jenna who knew about the hanging man but only TJ knows what happened on the lake.
I don't know why Chase killed Sydney, the only thing I can think of is either it was an accident or the Echo entity made him do it!
As for the treasure hunt, fans have a lot of opinions! Mine is that TJ was possessed by possibly Sydney and made the letters, but that doesn't explain why the letters appeared old.
Sidney kinda wanted to die, bc Micah said that he dreamed with Chase killing him on the lake but he was "grateful about it". My guess is that the Echo entity was tormenting him because Sidney technically killed his dad, and then he was acting weird and maybe tried to kill TJ under the influence of Echo and Chase got nuts.
From what I gathered, in Flynn's route, we see the accidental death Sydney did to his father, giving context to the rumors Chase, TJ, and Carl know in TJ's route in their flashback scene: the rumor of him killing his father. So, a kid that bullied you and your friends now having talk that he killed his own dad stacked on top of all that?
This...did not look good for Sydney's reputation at the time along with how much of a dick he acted to the group in general with his roughhousing and bullying. So Chase was already wary of Sydney from the get-go once that secret was out.
In TJ's route, The day Chase saw Sydney mess with TJ at the beach with pulling him about in the water, he assumed the worst with intentions and He finally got fed up with Sydney's antics, thus leading to Chase killing him and the possession taking over him from that point onwards, changing him for the manipulator we see controlling TJ now in the present.
Now, whether or not it was from pure hatred or being controlled by the (socket man?) spirit when it appeared at the beach, I'm unclear of. Everyone disliked Sydney but Flynn. So I wouldn't doubt that Chase would go that far.
Well, it's not the first time Chase confronted Sydney about this! Recall when he did just that at the railroad tracks, pushing him about to show how it feels. When he fought with Sydney at the beach, he was screaming about Chase trying to kill him and the situation just escalated from there.

Okay ummm I just love how in this route we saw more about Sidney (that's the highlight of the route, I just hate TJ personality). But I can get it, Is it true that Chase killed sidney and TJ saw it?! That's so shitty!! And I quite don't understand it cuz' in Flynn's route he told the story about Syd's dead different (like the Sand castle, Carl sleeping, Jenna playing with TJ but leaving for stuff, Leo nowhere) but in this Route the story is different so I don't know if it's my fault xD

Leo's route best scenario - I believed this is the neutral ending and the most "logical" ending i've played. Leo stayed in Echo, while everybody went out, i think that's what happened?
Flynn's route - I still can't understand this, can anyone explain it better. I have played and see the ending when Flynn become a monster. Is the shadow Chase in the car is when Chase possesion broke? Is the Chase Duke's saw is shadow Chase? And is the Chase all along the story is the real Chase? If it's not, then how is the real chase? And what happened to Flynn? Why he died and become monster? He was with Carl and Dax right? Also is the Chase in the end of route (5 years later after it happened), is the real Chase? And what happened to the others afterward? "To be continued...", does that mean that story hasn't been finished yet? Or it is for a new story?
TJ's route - I forgot a bit about this route. What i remembered is that Chase and TJ are the one who playing a role in Sydney's dead. Who killed Sydney? And what happened afterwards this route? Is TJ in his route is the real him? Is Chase in this route is shadow Chase? I need more explanation...
And then, the most "logical" ending is in the Leo's route? This game doesn't have "good" ending at all? I'm confused but the story is... really well-written.

Well yes, Leo's good ending is where everyone is safe (But i feel sad tho, he ends up depressed, well he was obsessed to Chase and that is a no-no but it was tragic to see that.) But someone said the Chase Leo loved is not real Chase? I heard that the real Chase isn't gay and isn't the Chase Leo loved.
I haven't played Carl's and Jenna's route (i will later, i just finished Flynn's route and one route already take so much time)
I think Flynn's route is the route with most story explained, but still a bad ending. TJ's route... it's obvious it's the worst ending.
I heard Arches will adapt from Flynn's route, does that mean that Flynn is died in Arches? Sad to hear that though. Do you think the curse will ever end? I think it's going to be a loop forever if it's like that.

I just can't hate Leo! He became obbsesed over Chase because as a maned wolf he would mate for life. Also Chase didn't treat him very well and broke up with him in a pretty bad way, then the forces of Echo twisted Leo's thoughts!
About the possession and love, its complicated. Leo already had a crush on Chase before he was possesssed.
After thinking about it and go through the routes again, it seems Chase really was himself, just altered by the entities.
Leo loved both versions of Chase, and never seemed to notice the difference.
I could be wrong about that though!
Anyway, I think Flynn's ending and TJ's endings are the most tragic, and Leos ending is kinda depressing!
I wish there was a better end for Flynn and an end where Leo doesn't get mental trauma and stays friends with chase.
Yeah, Leo still had chance to recover tho from his depression, but he might will never be with Chase again. Still sad but... well this game don't want you to be happy - Echo curse.
For Flynn's route, i think it's the real route, because if Flynn didn't became the monster, then they will never saw any monster in the first place, but the possesion still likely be there - again, Echo curse, that what i called it. If Flynn still had control to his emotion, he would likely be a good monster, but seeing what happened and where the monster appear, i think Flynn still cared to them but he did wrong things, instead of helping them it make more mistakes. Like how he appeared when Jenna's parent is arguing.
I'm sad, but i think there is no way to escape the curse in this game and the prequel, i hope the sequel will have good ending or i might cry lol (jk). If it's not then it will be complete loop, until nobody lives there again (which mean, dead, or if they hop into the train [maybe it was the only way to escape from Echo])

After I finished Leo's route, I was depressed for at least 2 days...
I mean, even though Chase didn't like echo, he shouldn't left Leo alone like that. He should've at least communicated with him for the past 3 years, but damn...
That was why Leo's obsession with Chase got worse that it even influenced THE entity in echo.
Its reveled in Jenna's route that Chase would text Leo at night when he was at collage. He even said he loved him and would come back someday! So Chase added to Leo's obsession.
I think Chase should have stayed with Leo and not gotten on the train...
I just did the Flynn's route and my mind is so messed up!!! WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED????? I can't understand anything with that final! Tho I loved the soundtrack and the POP song xD that was my favorite (I'm in love with sidney and leo :( )
But why?? That's what I don't understand, It was because he went crazy for didn't forget sidney and want to see him again? because I can understand why he died but not how the monster took the control of him
"Sam" used Flynn's desire to learn the truth to mutilate Flynn into a body that he can use to ride the "ebb and flow" of Echo. Flynn desperately wanted to know what happened to Sidney and he was ultimately denied that possibility when he traveled back in time to the incident and his eyes dissolved. You'll see more of the Sam/Flynn monster in other routes but it doesn't seem to be evil. In fact it seems to play the part of a vigilante at times. "We make the justice we are given"
OMGGGG now I get it!!!! now I understand why he said that (We make the justice we are given). And It's so true that this route is so cruel and like a tragedy with all the Sidney's dead and the crazyness of Flynn :( He deserved a better ending where he could forget about sidney and where he would live in peace with carl
I don't hate him at all. He makes some terrible mistakes but his feelings are genuine and we can understand his reasons for being pissed by reading multiple routes. Any problems he might have can be solved through dialogue. I hope he and Chase end up together in the canon ending.
I think Leo is afraid of the future and losing what he once had. HE wanted to get his childhood friend group back together, but they kinda didn't get along. So he wanted his ex boyfriend back, but went about it in a ridicules and unhealthy way! His natural tendencies where twisted and exaggerated by the hysteria. Also Chase and Jenna really didn't treat him right!
I don't think his problems can be solved just by talking, he needs to be happy about what he does have, and also leave Echo!
Then some of his problems seem to just be part of who he is and would be very difficult to change.
In the end Leo is a tragic character!
Also unfortunately there will be no canon route added.
i hate people who feel like talking to a brick wall when youre arguing. like hes clearly dumb as at least half a sack of doornails but whatever he says or however he sees it in his own head is right no matter what and inarguable. At the same time i still feel bad for him though.

Just finished what was available of Jenna's route. Everything up to it has been fantastic, but I think the lengths the last few updates goes to explain certain paranormal elements takes the edge off of the atmosphere. My preference in horror is for the answers to be revealed through inference and implication but the characters straight up spell it out for you and that sort of kills it for me. Regardless I'm still invested in seeing how this all ends and I can't wait for the next update.

It's ironic that going after an obnoxious know-it-all who belittles and emasculates Leo might end up bringing about an actual good ending for Leo. The events in Jenna's route line in a way for Leo to realize his delusions as well as give him a cause to externalize the blame for it, whereas in the "good" Leo ending he ends up being tormented for years before being able to let go. Flynn's route is probably the next closest where it's implied that Leo dumps Chase after finding out that Chase killed Sidney. Now we just need a route for Kudzu where he reaps the consequences of making the horrible mistake of falling in love with Chase.
Yeah, Leo might be getting better off at the end of this route. But, there is a theory that he dies!
As for Flynn's route, Chase was no longer possessed and was not the same person that Leo loved, he also was not gay without being possessed, so they went their separate ways.
Chase is gay even when Sam's influence was its weakest and there's no indication he wasn't. Leo isn't in love with Chase or the thing possessing him. He's in love with the Chase in his memories which Echo made an image of to manipulate Leo.
I admit I could have been misunderstanding things in Echo, but I thought it was implied that when Chase was freed from possession he was a totally different person that Leo wasn't interested in anymore. Again I admit I might have misunderstood stuff, but this ruins my fanfiction as the difference between possessed Chase and himself Chase was an important part!
Leo states in the Van in Jenna's route that Shadow Chase was created from his perception of Chase and that the real chase is different now. Chase still dates other guys or Kudzu while outside from echo where he can't even hear Sam.
[!SPOILER! LEO'S ROUTE!] is there a good ending in Leo's route cause holy hell. I was not expecting to get basically murdered by my boyfriend. Plus poor kudzu he was only trying to help the whole time.😭😭 Im guessing in the "bad" route you end up dying the way that other dude that had his legs ran over was supposed to go. Honestly, I was not ready. I'd go outside and touch some grass to calm down. But its dark outside 😅😂

Currently making my way through Jenna's route, noticed Leo use the word "Feh" (or something along those lines) multiple times. Seemed out of character as I don't recall him saying it at all in TJ's and his own routes. Maybe it'll be explained but I just thought I'd note it down.
Can hightly recommend this one, I'm usually not someone who gets spooked easily but this Visual Novel gave me the goosebumps. Now all paths that are left are Jenna :3

Well, you may want to play the other routes to understand it better.
Flynn's route ends with him becoming the the monster! The picture shows whats left of his body after burning in the mine and traveling through time! The little kid in the picture is Jenna. She talks about seeing the monster in another route. As for Chase and the others, their not shown. I assumed they survived Echo maybe with some mental trauma and morn the death of Flynn. Carl and Dax saw Flynn burning in the mine, they would tell the others he's dead I guess.
Well, my soul is a frail, Echo is far more enough to me. xD Now somehow i understand, but i don't like i couldn't have a choice to get a good end with everybody surviving. :/ Ehh, this story is simply not my taste. The character design is really good, i would have enjoy some nsfw, but nevermind. The early story was really good, but the end was horrible for me. :/ Maybe that's just not my type, because how i see the things, everybody liked echo, now looks like i'm the black lamb. :D
After reading some comments, I feel like i made a fool of myself thinking Flynns route was going to be continued on Echo but i guess it was a teaser for the upcoming thing if i am correct?
I will say that being someone that gets overhyped about story and all that i really have a bad experience as this game is dark and scary at some points...
TJ's Route scared me, i dont know if i was at the end of the route at all, because i wimped out because of what happened to flynn.
But this game is Amazing, I love how there was a lot of info that could be formed into theories... What's really sad is that me as a person feels bad for flynn and what happened to him in his route. If there was a chance I would save him but i know that wont happen considering what he turned into...
The time loop thing sort of resonates with me because i love when stories do that... Seeing How Flynn was all those things everyone saw and how he turned into socket monster.
The weird thing is I feel like all the routes are happening all at the same time, Its weird i know but the way Chase did that to Flynn really made me rethink that Maybe chase was being controlled the whole time and being in everyone elses routes at the same time... Because i will say so far all the routes seem to end differently with flynns possibly being the one true ending (My opinion)
Haven't checked out Jenna's route out yet but i think i should stick with finishing the others before her's also i thought those pictures Chase finds in the town hall were just easter eggs, but its more story stuff that we may get in future updates to The smoke room...

What i don't get is how the hysteria started in 1915? But James died in 1913? (James is the ram mayor right?) I may be wrong but i cant seem to place that maybe William went back in time or it was a mistake...

James Sr. is one of the people who founded Echo in the mid 1800s. He left to start an ice cream business and then died before TSR began. The James seen in alive and well in TSR is his descendant
I Not finished the game, but i have several problems. It gonna be a really good vn, just the problem is, i can't identify myself as Chase at TJ's route. At Flynn's i don't like i'm not Chase anymore and i don't like the idea to see the things in Flynn's eyes. I used to love thriller. My favourite anime is Higurashi No Naku Koro Ni, but i played the game as Chase, it's always use "I", "Me", "My" or etc. In TJ's route, i don't want to be an asshole...
It would be okay, if the game don't identify myself as Chase, but hell, it hurts to be a shit person in TJ's route!
Ah, but you, the reader, are not Chase, and that's the point the VN is trying to make (Jenna's route will make this clear, that's all I can say without spoiling it for you). This is one of the reasons why I love Echo, it plays around with genre conventions and standards, making you question everything after a plot twist is revealed. It is no coincidence that "real" choices are very limited in Echo, compared to most other VNs.
And with Flynn, pay attention to the moment the perspective changes. What happened to Chase that caused the change? Why did we follow Flynn and not someone else? It all has a purpose and ties together, and coming up with theories and trying to find the real reason is 60% of the fun I got from playing Echo.
Also, notice how in Adastra you can chose Marco's name, but in Echo Chase's name is chosen for you.
PS. Echo isn't a thriller VN, I'd classify it as horror/mystery. So you'll be disappointed expecting to get a thrill out of Echo without putting any work in yourself.
I can't say Echo is a horror, because it not even scared me, maybe a little, but also i not really like horror, because horror is too scary, and there are a lot of twist and that's why i say it's more like thriller. Well, i can understand your statement. I can agree with u in a lot of part, maybe it's jut not my taste. Also i can enjoy this VN 75%. Maybe i identified myself as Chase, because i have an arachnaphobia too, also at Flynn's route i was able to choose what i really really want. I just hope the team will survive and i not disappoint in Chase. I hope he didn't kill Sydney. Flynn's route will be the first and the last for me i think. I still feel myself a dipshit in Toby's route. :/
I just realized this, on Leo's bad ending, since he killed the one with the "hallucinations" , doesn't that mean the echo/entity would be after him? wouldn't he go through the same paranormal happenings that occurred to chase and Sam? It would be insane to get even a glimpse of what might happen, the cast's reactions to what happened to their otter friend, their words towards leo, the funeral, Leo's realization and shock/trauma when he comes to his senses.. , but I'm not sure if the story can be stretched out any further, plus he would most likely either be in an asylum or prison.. Still, the possibility of Leo being possessed/tormented by that entity for as long as he lives..after losing his most important person no less, magnifies the bad ending by dozen folds..
Oh wow! Yeah I thought about that too. I think when Leo realized what he did, he'd kill himself! I mean, Leo's been in love with Chase for years, and then totally obsessed with him. Then Imagine him snapping out of the hysteria seeing Chase dead. I think it would be the end for him too.

It's a heavy blow how the ambulance/police are only slightly late, when chase hears them before passing, I'm real curious about the presence that was staring at him though xx I have my doubts but they are most unlikely

Judging from Flynn's endings, I don't think Leo will show up since in one variation of the ending Leo moved out of Echo, while in another he's still in Echo.
Man, I did not expect this VN to hit THIS hard, I just finished my first route(TJ's) and I don't think I can read the others.. just yet. I just gonna have an emotional shutdown for a week before I might continue with the other routes
very compelling, immersive, but this was intensely depressing to get through. the depiction of rural decay, the effect of living in such a setting on the characters, hits very hard.
definitely reading the other stuff by echoproject, but also -- any recommendations for something a bit more cheerful, idealistic? ;-;
Damn EchoProjects!!! You sure know how to pull my hartstings. Echo is by far the best/worst experience in VNs i ever had. The fact that it captures your attention and make you feel every emotion is just unbelievable. Just well done guys!!

I don't know why, but for some reason I balled like a baby when my suspicion of the the old albino guy from Jenna's route was actually Samuel from TSR. It absolutely broke my heart. I was like "No f'ing way you let him die like that." I love his character so much, and the fact that the game states he lost everyone make me very afraid of whats to come in the later updates of TSR. Knowing how Echo was it will most probably be very heartbreaking. Here hoping I won't die from sadness lol.
Yeah, aside from TJ's, Flynn's is considered the "worst" route to start with.
If you haven't yet, try and save TJ's for last.
Perhaps a "recommended" order would be: Carl -> Leo -> Flynn -> TJ -> Jenna (by default as it's not finished yet).
EDIT: Just saw further down the devs recommending someone mentioning this play order: The Smoke Room -> Route 65 -> Carl -> Leo -> Jenna -> TJ -> Flynn.
TJ is best played first imo (perhaps even before TSR), especially if you're the kind of player who likes reading in between the lines and tries to predict the twists since it's easy to get tipped off to the twist at the end of TJ's by playing the other routes first. The other reason to play TJ first is because out of all the routes, up until the end it felt like a low budget horror B-movie to me (as someone who played it first), which really plays around with your expectation for the ending. I think if you don't play it first, it looses that B-movie feel and the ending won't really subvert expectations and not be as memorable.
Route 65 I would say is completely optional, and only really matters for Jenna's route. And that's not to mention that a lot of it is repeated in Jenna's route too.
And just to be clear, the devs didn't recommend that order, just that they agree with it.
oof, yeah Flynn is easily the best route, but is terrible to start with. Ah well, the game is better if you play the important parts over and over again, making theories and finding evidence. And Flynn's route has a lot of juicy info for theories.
I started with it. And it was so fucking scary with the monster but I think that It's the perfect route for the beginning. Cuz' you can understand all the Sidneys problems, and the personality of Syd and Flynn, Even you can look at how flynn cares about carl. So when you finish his route you have more questions than Answers and you could know which route would have the answers you want to know (just like me xD that I played Flynn's route and then I played TJ's Route for the answers of what happened)

I've just finished Leo route and I'm just shocked. But I did notice a lot of people saying chase was bad to leo, I know it was kinda mean to live him like that, but I can understand chase and how he couldn't stay in echo and wanted to leave, I mean would you want to live there the town is twisted, plus didn't leo wanted to stay in echo instead of leaving?

I thought that I hate the Leo route just because chase and him didn't have a good closure or broke up, not that thing of braking in the train that feels awfuls and more cuz' they both are in love with each other like True love but then they just broke up like nothing xd I'm pissed for that

Its pretty sad as I just never found Kudzu as interesting as Leo!

WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED IN THIS ROUTEEEEEEEEEEE I didn't expect anything of all the kidnappin' and brian-duke crazyness, WTFFFF It's was so terrifying the brian stuff and how He NEARLY violate chase chocking him and then killing him, It was so scary and gross. (Tysm Sam for saving us)
I love the way Chase act in the route, just the same Chase as carl's route and that's recomfortin' , but jeeeeeze I didn't thought of all the hysteria happening again just like in Flynn's route even it was the same process!! But GOD I love how we look for everybody and how we save them.
With That I REALLY REALLY love Leo (just the sane Leo and the leo without a ghost controlling his guts) and I really think that it's a shame of how his route antagonized him, it's not his fault and nearly everything that he did it was for the sake for all of his friends (Still he went mad and then he messed everything LOL) But Jesus I don't like it, I really hate the final of his good ending, that shit didn't fell like "Good" and I HATE IT cuz the story have everything to make a good ending even if we left Leo behind.
It would be perfect an ending where all of us stayed as friends after seeing all that crap and realizing how we really care about each others (even Flynn cares about TJ, and Jenna cares about Flynn) and then we broke up with Leo but with could AT LEAST took him on the train and then to a therapist. Cuz' This ending of everyone escapin' and then everybody mad at each other (not talkin' to each others like in Carl's ending) feels off and more with all the trauma thing. I Dunno, I really love this game and it have a perfect storytellin'

One of the routes has the voices mentioning the day Chase learned what water feels like for everyone else: SUFOCATING. So I thought he and Sydney almost drowned together. But after reading all routes, the only moment Chase nearly drowns is during Carl's route. Are the voices pulling information from alternate timelines?

Ok, now I'm really hoping Chase and Leo get together at the end of Jenna's route. Spoiler:
It's the only route with a heavy focus on Leo where he also fully opens up. We get the whole story on why shadow Chase exists while Leo recognizes it is just his fake idealized version of Chase. Jenna also seems to get more and more annoying with her psychoanalysis BS. We know for a fact that Chase and Leo do love each other, so let those fuckers be together, dammit!
I'm pretty sure the obsession is one sided, I hear ya but I doubt chase cares about Leo all that much, Leo is just a friend and an ex he is trying to avoid
I sympathize with Leo and think he deserves better, but that "better" is most likely a new relationship, chase is an asshole.

I really simphatized with Leo, we just need to think how chase """broke""" with him and then dissapired for 3 years, and then come back and treat Leo like nothing happen. I just finished Carl's route and I'm feeling like i'm going to explode for all the Roller coaster of emotions.
Firts of all I LOVE the final, It trully feels like a Good ending, my only doubt it's Leo, I wish that he would went with us in all that time traveling shit, so just like that he would be happy with us and he would got rid of him problem (So in this final we could see that at least our group of friends it's better than in any other final, we were 6 and got down to 4/3 depending if Leo had been stayed with us). But I'm kinda sad/disapointed that we didn't see much about sidney, I stan sidney and I love him LOL
AND OMG I'm shocked of how many answers this route gave me, We know that there are 3 o more ghost (james, john and the Socklet face) each of them with their own desires!! And we saw what the hell happened on TJ's route, about Why Chase saw the fox (john) hanging on the forest, why on Flynn's route we saw how the town condemn a person killing it (The haging process of Jonh), Why chase saw a little kid hanging himself in the motel for later saw the socklet/james in the mirror telling him to kill Flynn (I'm guessing that this a clue of the Missing native Kid, and why James said that Echo need secrets)
But still this route feels odd cuz' they never explained wha the hell happened with TJ, even on his route with didn't see what it's his f*ckin' problem, Why TJ attack jenna? Why TJ has that trauma of sidney? And why HE. CAN'T. JUST. SAY. IT?. I really hate TJ in all tge routes, I can't tolerate him xd
I just realized another reason about why I LOVED this route, it feels really good to see how chase is chase (baing himself and not a f*ckin' murderer or a crazy dude), and watch how he get rid of all the problem around him and hia group (I like the way the crazy people here is Jenna and carl but not chase). Another reason it's how he REALLY did his project, not like in TJ's route where he didn't give a crap about his study.
Pd: I really love Raven, he is one of the highlights of carl route, it's not like daxton or the stupid deer, he is REALLY supportive, wise and useful in the story, that and I wish they had a final where Leo it's with us.
Pd.2: That f*cking creepy/horror/screamer laugh on the night killed me, I wasn't ready for it and I spilled my soul to heaven at the moment it just scared me. I hate it and I love it.
That laugh was borderline criminal. Almost shit myself.

On TJ route we got the confirmation that Chase killed Sidney, but why? On that route it looks like Chase is super protective with TJ and that's why he just killed Flynn when there was 'danger' (and i bet he would've killed even the Deer guy if he could), but when they were kids he didnt seem to be so obsessed with TJ (i believe it's because of Echo that he was acting that weird) and he doesn't seem to hate Sidney that much, so why did he actually killed him? And who tf did the whole treasure hunt? Was Socket Monster (Flynn)?, it couldn't be anyone on the group but Jenna who knew about the hanging man but only TJ knows what happened on the lake.

I don't know why Chase killed Sydney, the only thing I can think of is either it was an accident or the Echo entity made him do it!
As for the treasure hunt, fans have a lot of opinions! Mine is that TJ was possessed by possibly Sydney and made the letters, but that doesn't explain why the letters appeared old.

Sidney kinda wanted to die, bc Micah said that he dreamed with Chase killing him on the lake but he was "grateful about it". My guess is that the Echo entity was tormenting him because Sidney technically killed his dad, and then he was acting weird and maybe tried to kill TJ under the influence of Echo and Chase got nuts.

From what I gathered, in Flynn's route, we see the accidental death Sydney did to his father, giving context to the rumors Chase, TJ, and Carl know in TJ's route in their flashback scene: the rumor of him killing his father. So, a kid that bullied you and your friends now having talk that he killed his own dad stacked on top of all that?
This...did not look good for Sydney's reputation at the time along with how much of a dick he acted to the group in general with his roughhousing and bullying. So Chase was already wary of Sydney from the get-go once that secret was out.
In TJ's route, The day Chase saw Sydney mess with TJ at the beach with pulling him about in the water, he assumed the worst with intentions and He finally got fed up with Sydney's antics, thus leading to Chase killing him and the possession taking over him from that point onwards, changing him for the manipulator we see controlling TJ now in the present.
Now, whether or not it was from pure hatred or being controlled by the (socket man?) spirit when it appeared at the beach, I'm unclear of. Everyone disliked Sydney but Flynn. So I wouldn't doubt that Chase would go that far.

It is said that Chase was mean to TJ too, but he didn't ever go that far!

Well, it's not the first time Chase confronted Sydney about this! Recall when he did just that at the railroad tracks, pushing him about to show how it feels. When he fought with Sydney at the beach, he was screaming about Chase trying to kill him and the situation just escalated from there.

And I quite don't understand it cuz' in Flynn's route he told the story about Syd's dead different (like the Sand castle, Carl sleeping, Jenna playing with TJ but leaving for stuff, Leo nowhere) but in this Route the story is different so I don't know if it's my fault xD

So far i have completed these routes and this is what i remembered
Leo's route best scenario - I believed this is the neutral ending and the most "logical" ending i've played. Leo stayed in Echo, while everybody went out, i think that's what happened?
Flynn's route - I still can't understand this, can anyone explain it better. I have played and see the ending when Flynn become a monster. Is the shadow Chase in the car is when Chase possesion broke? Is the Chase Duke's saw is shadow Chase? And is the Chase all along the story is the real Chase? If it's not, then how is the real chase? And what happened to Flynn? Why he died and become monster? He was with Carl and Dax right? Also is the Chase in the end of route (5 years later after it happened), is the real Chase? And what happened to the others afterward? "To be continued...", does that mean that story hasn't been finished yet? Or it is for a new story?
TJ's route - I forgot a bit about this route. What i remembered is that Chase and TJ are the one who playing a role in Sydney's dead. Who killed Sydney? And what happened afterwards this route? Is TJ in his route is the real him? Is Chase in this route is shadow Chase? I need more explanation...
And then, the most "logical" ending is in the Leo's route? This game doesn't have "good" ending at all? I'm confused but the story is... really well-written.

Anyway, Leo's good ending and Carl's good ending are the best. There is no happy ending.
Flynn's route is not yet finished, they are still going to add the epilogue.
I think Flynn was hallucinating and walked into a fire and died, but the entities in Echo used his body to create the time traveling monster.
Five years later Chase returns to Echo to help out some guys making their own ghost investigation. Its the Real Chase.
TJ's route! Well um Chase killed Sydney, and nobody believed what TJ said he saw.
Afterwards its not tolled what happened to the others....
I still feel bad for Leo, he ends up so depressed!

Well yes, Leo's good ending is where everyone is safe (But i feel sad tho, he ends up depressed, well he was obsessed to Chase and that is a no-no but it was tragic to see that.) But someone said the Chase Leo loved is not real Chase? I heard that the real Chase isn't gay and isn't the Chase Leo loved.
I haven't played Carl's and Jenna's route (i will later, i just finished Flynn's route and one route already take so much time)
I think Flynn's route is the route with most story explained, but still a bad ending. TJ's route... it's obvious it's the worst ending.
I heard Arches will adapt from Flynn's route, does that mean that Flynn is died in Arches? Sad to hear that though. Do you think the curse will ever end? I think it's going to be a loop forever if it's like that.

I just can't hate Leo! He became obbsesed over Chase because as a maned wolf he would mate for life. Also Chase didn't treat him very well and broke up with him in a pretty bad way, then the forces of Echo twisted Leo's thoughts!
About the possession and love, its complicated. Leo already had a crush on Chase before he was possesssed.
After thinking about it and go through the routes again, it seems Chase really was himself, just altered by the entities.
Leo loved both versions of Chase, and never seemed to notice the difference.
I could be wrong about that though!
Anyway, I think Flynn's ending and TJ's endings are the most tragic, and Leos ending is kinda depressing!
I wish there was a better end for Flynn and an end where Leo doesn't get mental trauma and stays friends with chase.

Yeah, Leo still had chance to recover tho from his depression, but he might will never be with Chase again. Still sad but... well this game don't want you to be happy - Echo curse.
For Flynn's route, i think it's the real route, because if Flynn didn't became the monster, then they will never saw any monster in the first place, but the possesion still likely be there - again, Echo curse, that what i called it. If Flynn still had control to his emotion, he would likely be a good monster, but seeing what happened and where the monster appear, i think Flynn still cared to them but he did wrong things, instead of helping them it make more mistakes. Like how he appeared when Jenna's parent is arguing.
I'm sad, but i think there is no way to escape the curse in this game and the prequel, i hope the sequel will have good ending or i might cry lol (jk). If it's not then it will be complete loop, until nobody lives there again (which mean, dead, or if they hop into the train [maybe it was the only way to escape from Echo])

I mean, even though Chase didn't like echo, he shouldn't left Leo alone like that. He should've at least communicated with him for the past 3 years, but damn...

Its reveled in Jenna's route that Chase would text Leo at night when he was at collage. He even said he loved him and would come back someday! So Chase added to Leo's obsession.

I just did the Flynn's route and my mind is so messed up!!! WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED????? I can't understand anything with that final! Tho I loved the soundtrack and the POP song xD that was my favorite (I'm in love with sidney and leo :( )

"Sam" used Flynn's desire to learn the truth to mutilate Flynn into a body that he can use to ride the "ebb and flow" of Echo. Flynn desperately wanted to know what happened to Sidney and he was ultimately denied that possibility when he traveled back in time to the incident and his eyes dissolved. You'll see more of the Sam/Flynn monster in other routes but it doesn't seem to be evil. In fact it seems to play the part of a vigilante at times. "We make the justice we are given"

I don't hate him at all. He makes some terrible mistakes but his feelings are genuine and we can understand his reasons for being pissed by reading multiple routes. Any problems he might have can be solved through dialogue. I hope he and Chase end up together in the canon ending.

I think Leo is afraid of the future and losing what he once had. HE wanted to get his childhood friend group back together, but they kinda didn't get along. So he wanted his ex boyfriend back, but went about it in a ridicules and unhealthy way! His natural tendencies where twisted and exaggerated by the hysteria. Also Chase and Jenna really didn't treat him right!
I don't think his problems can be solved just by talking, he needs to be happy about what he does have, and also leave Echo!
Then some of his problems seem to just be part of who he is and would be very difficult to change.
In the end Leo is a tragic character!
Also unfortunately there will be no canon route added.

i hate people who feel like talking to a brick wall when youre arguing. like hes clearly dumb as at least half a sack of doornails but whatever he says or however he sees it in his own head is right no matter what and inarguable. At the same time i still feel bad for him though.

Well, it seems the artist made it for reference or something, but its simply never used in the story.

I've been able to download every update before this perfectly fine and I have more than enough storage on my phone... You gotta uninstall the old build, I'm afraid. Fortunately, the skip/fast forward feature is pretty nifty.
Just finished what was available of Jenna's route. Everything up to it has been fantastic, but I think the lengths the last few updates goes to explain certain paranormal elements takes the edge off of the atmosphere. My preference in horror is for the answers to be revealed through inference and implication but the characters straight up spell it out for you and that sort of kills it for me. Regardless I'm still invested in seeing how this all ends and I can't wait for the next update.

It's ironic that going after an obnoxious know-it-all who belittles and emasculates Leo might end up bringing about an actual good ending for Leo. The events in Jenna's route line in a way for Leo to realize his delusions as well as give him a cause to externalize the blame for it, whereas in the "good" Leo ending he ends up being tormented for years before being able to let go. Flynn's route is probably the next closest where it's implied that Leo dumps Chase after finding out that Chase killed Sidney. Now we just need a route for Kudzu where he reaps the consequences of making the horrible mistake of falling in love with Chase.

As for Flynn's route, Chase was no longer possessed and was not the same person that Leo loved, he also was not gay without being possessed, so they went their separate ways.

Chase is gay even when Sam's influence was its weakest and there's no indication he wasn't. Leo isn't in love with Chase or the thing possessing him. He's in love with the Chase in his memories which Echo made an image of to manipulate Leo.

I admit I could have been misunderstanding things in Echo, but I thought it was implied that when Chase was freed from possession he was a totally different person that Leo wasn't interested in anymore. Again I admit I might have misunderstood stuff, but this ruins my fanfiction as the difference between possessed Chase and himself Chase was an important part!

Leo states in the Van in Jenna's route that Shadow Chase was created from his perception of Chase and that the real chase is different now. Chase still dates other guys or Kudzu while outside from echo where he can't even hear Sam.

Plus poor kudzu he was only trying to help the whole time.😭😭 Im guessing in the "bad" route you end up dying the way that other dude that had his legs ran over was supposed to go. Honestly, I was not ready. I'd go outside and touch some grass to calm down. But its dark outside 😅😂

Currently making my way through Jenna's route, noticed Leo use the word "Feh" (or something along those lines) multiple times. Seemed out of character as I don't recall him saying it at all in TJ's and his own routes. Maybe it'll be explained but I just thought I'd note it down.

Hey guys, i just finished Flynn's route. I don't understand. Can somebody tell me what's going on? I still don't know how Sydney died and what happened to chase, carl, jenna, dax and leo. What the hell happened?

Well, you may want to play the other routes to understand it better.
Flynn's route ends with him becoming the the monster! The picture shows whats left of his body after burning in the mine and traveling through time! The little kid in the picture is Jenna. She talks about seeing the monster in another route. As for Chase and the others, their not shown. I assumed they survived Echo maybe with some mental trauma and morn the death of Flynn. Carl and Dax saw Flynn burning in the mine, they would tell the others he's dead I guess.
Well, my soul is a frail, Echo is far more enough to me. xD Now somehow i understand, but i don't like i couldn't have a choice to get a good end with everybody surviving. :/ Ehh, this story is simply not my taste. The character design is really good, i would have enjoy some nsfw, but nevermind. The early story was really good, but the end was horrible for me. :/ Maybe that's just not my type, because how i see the things, everybody liked echo, now looks like i'm the black lamb. :D

After reading some comments, I feel like i made a fool of myself thinking Flynns route was going to be continued on Echo but i guess it was a teaser for the upcoming thing if i am correct?
I will say that being someone that gets overhyped about story and all that i really have a bad experience as this game is dark and scary at some points...
TJ's Route scared me, i dont know if i was at the end of the route at all, because i wimped out because of what happened to flynn.
But this game is Amazing, I love how there was a lot of info that could be formed into theories... What's really sad is that me as a person feels bad for flynn and what happened to him in his route. If there was a chance I would save him but i know that wont happen considering what he turned into...
The time loop thing sort of resonates with me because i love when stories do that... Seeing How Flynn was all those things everyone saw and how he turned into socket monster.
The weird thing is I feel like all the routes are happening all at the same time, Its weird i know but the way Chase did that to Flynn really made me rethink that Maybe chase was being controlled the whole time and being in everyone elses routes at the same time... Because i will say so far all the routes seem to end differently with flynns possibly being the one true ending (My opinion)
Haven't checked out Jenna's route out yet but i think i should stick with finishing the others before her's also i thought those pictures Chase finds in the town hall were just easter eggs, but its more story stuff that we may get in future updates to The smoke room...

What i don't get is how the hysteria started in 1915? But James died in 1913? (James is the ram mayor right?) I may be wrong but i cant seem to place that maybe William went back in time or it was a mistake...

James Sr. is one of the people who founded Echo in the mid 1800s. He left to start an ice cream business and then died before TSR began. The James seen in alive and well in TSR is his descendant

I Not finished the game, but i have several problems. It gonna be a really good vn, just the problem is, i can't identify myself as Chase at TJ's route. At Flynn's i don't like i'm not Chase anymore and i don't like the idea to see the things in Flynn's eyes. I used to love thriller. My favourite anime is Higurashi No Naku Koro Ni, but i played the game as Chase, it's always use "I", "Me", "My" or etc. In TJ's route, i don't want to be an asshole...
It would be okay, if the game don't identify myself as Chase, but hell, it hurts to be a shit person in TJ's route!
Ah, but you, the reader, are not Chase, and that's the point the VN is trying to make (Jenna's route will make this clear, that's all I can say without spoiling it for you). This is one of the reasons why I love Echo, it plays around with genre conventions and standards, making you question everything after a plot twist is revealed. It is no coincidence that "real" choices are very limited in Echo, compared to most other VNs.
And with Flynn, pay attention to the moment the perspective changes. What happened to Chase that caused the change? Why did we follow Flynn and not someone else? It all has a purpose and ties together, and coming up with theories and trying to find the real reason is 60% of the fun I got from playing Echo.
Also, notice how in Adastra you can chose Marco's name, but in Echo Chase's name is chosen for you.
PS. Echo isn't a thriller VN, I'd classify it as horror/mystery. So you'll be disappointed expecting to get a thrill out of Echo without putting any work in yourself.
I can't say Echo is a horror, because it not even scared me, maybe a little, but also i not really like horror, because horror is too scary, and there are a lot of twist and that's why i say it's more like thriller. Well, i can understand your statement. I can agree with u in a lot of part, maybe it's jut not my taste. Also i can enjoy this VN 75%. Maybe i identified myself as Chase, because i have an arachnaphobia too, also at Flynn's route i was able to choose what i really really want. I just hope the team will survive and i not disappoint in Chase. I hope he didn't kill Sydney. Flynn's route will be the first and the last for me i think. I still feel myself a dipshit in Toby's route. :/

I just realized this, on Leo's bad ending, since he killed the one with the "hallucinations" , doesn't that mean the echo/entity would be after him? wouldn't he go through the same paranormal happenings that occurred to chase and Sam? It would be insane to get even a glimpse of what might happen, the cast's reactions to what happened to their otter friend, their words towards leo, the funeral, Leo's realization and shock/trauma when he comes to his senses.. , but I'm not sure if the story can be stretched out any further, plus he would most likely either be in an asylum or prison.. Still, the possibility of Leo being possessed/tormented by that entity for as long as he lives..after losing his most important person no less, magnifies the bad ending by dozen folds..
Oh wow! Yeah I thought about that too. I think when Leo realized what he did, he'd kill himself! I mean, Leo's been in love with Chase for years, and then totally obsessed with him. Then Imagine him snapping out of the hysteria seeing Chase dead. I think it would be the end for him too.

It's a heavy blow how the ambulance/police are only slightly late, when chase hears them before passing, I'm real curious about the presence that was staring at him though xx I have my doubts but they are most unlikely
I'm hoping there would be a continuation to this ending in Arches, but I highly doubt it.
wether it happens or not, I feel like we definitely need to see Leo in the next game, he is pretty much the mascot of echo ^^; would feel weird if we didn't get a glimpse or a mention at least.

I don't know about that, I think only Chase is going to be seen in Arches. I hope maybe Leo is shown though, and he has a better outcome and isn't depressed for life.
Judging from Flynn's endings, I don't think Leo will show up since in one variation of the ending Leo moved out of Echo, while in another he's still in Echo.

very compelling, immersive, but this was intensely depressing to get through. the depiction of rural decay, the effect of living in such a setting on the characters, hits very hard.

I would say Adrasta, but there are still sad moments in it but not as intensely as Echo

Damn EchoProjects!!! You sure know how to pull my hartstings. Echo is by far the best/worst experience in VNs i ever had. The fact that it captures your attention and make you feel every emotion is just unbelievable. Just well done guys!!

I don't know why, but for some reason I balled like a baby when my suspicion of the the old albino guy from Jenna's route was actually Samuel from TSR. It absolutely broke my heart. I was like "No f'ing way you let him die like that." I love his character so much, and the fact that the game states he lost everyone make me very afraid of whats to come in the later updates of TSR. Knowing how Echo was it will most probably be very heartbreaking. Here hoping I won't die from sadness lol.

Just finished my first playthrough of the game... probably shouldn't have started with Flynn's path 0_o
Yeah, aside from TJ's, Flynn's is considered the "worst" route to start with.
If you haven't yet, try and save TJ's for last.
Perhaps a "recommended" order would be: Carl -> Leo -> Flynn -> TJ -> Jenna (by default as it's not finished yet).
EDIT: Just saw further down the devs recommending someone mentioning this play order: The Smoke Room -> Route 65 -> Carl -> Leo -> Jenna -> TJ -> Flynn.
TJ is best played first imo (perhaps even before TSR), especially if you're the kind of player who likes reading in between the lines and tries to predict the twists since it's easy to get tipped off to the twist at the end of TJ's by playing the other routes first. The other reason to play TJ first is because out of all the routes, up until the end it felt like a low budget horror B-movie to me (as someone who played it first), which really plays around with your expectation for the ending. I think if you don't play it first, it looses that B-movie feel and the ending won't really subvert expectations and not be as memorable.
Route 65 I would say is completely optional, and only really matters for Jenna's route. And that's not to mention that a lot of it is repeated in Jenna's route too.
And just to be clear, the devs didn't recommend that order, just that they agree with it.
oof, yeah Flynn is easily the best route, but is terrible to start with. Ah well, the game is better if you play the important parts over and over again, making theories and finding evidence. And Flynn's route has a lot of juicy info for theories.
I started with it. And it was so fucking scary with the monster but I think that It's the perfect route for the beginning. Cuz' you can understand all the Sidneys problems, and the personality of Syd and Flynn, Even you can look at how flynn cares about carl. So when you finish his route you have more questions than Answers and you could know which route would have the answers you want to know (just like me xD that I played Flynn's route and then I played TJ's Route for the answers of what happened)
