How does your game relate to the theme?
Lights Out, Mask Off relates to the theme in a plethora of ways. Most obviously all NPC characters wear masks, but in a twist of irony their feelings are revealed through these masks. The monster hides itself beneath a mask, but when the lights shut off so too does the mask come off.
Even deeper are the conversations between characters. They are constructed from a personality simulator, which represents both certain words and personality types in 3D space. This is not an LLM, this is proprietary and was built during the jam.
Characters store impressions of all those they speak too, and estimate the “personalities” of their peers. Each NPC judges the rest based on what they say, but they can never know the true personality of those around them. The characters verbal understanding of one another masks a true understanding.
