Humble ATV battery suggestions

Obviously a lot of people are complaining about the ATV battery (and rightfully so imo) and some are even suggesting adding an alternator, myself included, even though that's not really how ATVs charge/maintain their batteries in real life.  However, if the battery didn't drain while you were driving around and only drained:

1. Every time you start the ATV

2. If you leave the lights on while the engine is off

It would act more like a real life ATV and I actually think the balance would be much better if not perfect.  It really doesn't make sense for the battery to be constantly draining while the engine is running but the mechanic of having to replace it (or recharge it at the base with a trickle charger, hopefully...) once in a while is sound.  At least until you get the solar upgrade.  If they really wanted to go full depth sim mode they could separate the "get on ATV" and "start engine" into different actions so you could leave the engine idling if you wanted to use the headlights while it's parked at the cost of some fuel.

Apologies if this has already been thought of or suggested, just my two cents!

If the battery on your AVT is dead, just take a wrench, remove the old battery and install a new one. Battery for car you can buy on store.

That's the problem; once the battery is dead, there's no way to use the ATV unless you buy another battery for 150 Points; which cuts almost your entire day profits in the early game. Fuel won't be a problem if you're able to use the ATV last effectively, the killer is the battery passively draining while driving it (Faster if you drive with headlights on).

Yeah I 100% agree with this. And each time you start the atv it should use like maybe 10% of the battery? It should also slowly charge the battery when running. Even if you need to repair the alternator before it does this id be ok with it.  I think the battery's main purpose should be used as a way to punish you for leaving the headlights on and not as a "second form of fuel".

A 10% tax on start is exactly what I was thinking too.  Maybe the alternator could be a purchasable upgrade.  The only problem I see with the alternator/charger route is they would need to be cheap enough to justify actually buying them because once you get the solar panels you basically negate all of these things entirely, including the battery itself (which seems a bit overpowered honestly).

Kind of reiterating some things I said in another thread, but, I feel it might work better if the penalty for the battery going dead was less severe. Like instead of being completely unable to use the ATV, let you continue to use it but at reduced functionality. Like have all the bells and whistles run on the battery, like the lights, turbo, any special upgrades like the map or radio, etc, and when it runs out, those stop functioning but don't prevent you from driving. Maybe you could also make it so you have to turn the engine a few times (not sure if that's the correct term) every time you try to start it instead of having it start immediately, or possibly make it so the engine stalls occasionally. But having it be completely non-functional seems a bit much, especially considering that's already the penalty for running out of fuel. As-is the battery just seems like a more expensive second fuel.

Agreed that the battery just being another type of fuel right now is not very satisfying.  I think not being able to start the ATV at all if your battery's dead is fine though.  No different than if you ran out of gas. I think it's meant to be punishing if you didn't bother to check before you leave.

In the discord the Dev looks to be adding in an actual Battery Charger for the ATV, so it should make it a bit better
