Hey, I’m Moon! I’m making a small colony-building survival game in GameMaker, inspired by Caveman Craig, and I’m looking for an artist to join in. This will be a more relaxed hobby project, so we'll be more focused on steady progress rather than deadlines.
You play as the spirit of the forest, guiding a group of friendly creatures as they build homes, gather resources, and defend themselves from whatever the wilderness throws at them! I want to mix cozy happiness with moments of danger and tension. Sometimes your creatures are happily eating together or sleeping peacefully. Other times, you’ll be defending against an unrelenting horde of monsters.
You begin with a small group of forest creatures and a central home base. From there, you guide them to gather resources and construct new buildings. You can even “possess” one directly to lend a hand yourself. As new creatures and monsters appear, chaos can strike the otherwise peaceful forest. It’s up to you to keep your growing community safe and thriving.
The game is very early in development, but I’ve got some core systems prepared, like creature finite-state-machines and AI task management. The game really needs an artist to help give it identity! While I have a general design idea in mind, I’m absolutely up for discussing possible themes and styles. I want to go with an early 2000s computer game look with lower resolutions and more rounded shapes.
I want to really be able to work with the artist, sharing ideas, concepts, and designs. I love art, so I'm very excited for this! Whether you’ve never worked on a game before or have contributed to hundreds, I’d love to hear from you!
