Outside the house you'll see the railings in the top section of the map. The hint to find the key tells you it was thrown into the woods. There's a small entrance to the top left of the railings and it'll allow you to get behind them. Don't be an idiot like me and spent 10 minutes sweeping the roadside forests for the key.
