Via the titular horrific "entity" the Doom Clock itself which remains on-screen at all times, an unceasing and disturbing presence.
It acts as a wheel of fortune that will either give the player a buff or debuff depending on what it lands on.
Did you implement any of the optional Bonus Challenges, and if so, which ones?
"The Unlucky Number" I implemented through the amount of wedges on the Doom Clock (fortune wheel) as well as - more importantly - the amount of spins that can be had before it triggers a game over.
"Luck of the draw" When the game starts the wheel err Doom Clock will spin which dictates what enemy faction the player'll go up against initially, which can be horrible as some enemy types are a bad match up without the proper weapons to fight em'
"High Stakes" If the player is unhappy with the results of their spin they can spin again manually through a "rerolling consumable" between waves or at any time.
The more negative results the player ends up with, the greater their next positive outcome will be and vice versa.
- Note that all spins, positive and negative, cause the Doom Clock to tick closer and closer to the number 13, bringing the world to an end -
