  • Nice subtleties and nuances in the Idle. Good use of FX for the sword attack. Would be worth looking more at the shifting of the character's bodyweight between the legs/pelvis after/before ths steps back and forth That section also appears slightly sluggish, so maybe look to scale the speed up there, just to help make the movement look more believable.
  • The R&D on the project is really thorough, but as part of the initial planning, I’d have liked to see some more rig exploration. It would have been interesting to see other rigs that you had looked at but had ruled out. Good use of reference from multiple sources, and special kudos for shooting personal footage too. When shooting reference, it is important to utilise a prop (or stand-in prop) that is around the same size and weight as the one in your animation. It has a surprisingly big impact on the pose, posture, and centre of balance of the character. Generally, both the sword and shield in the animation feel much lighter than they look, and this gives an overall floatiness to the animation. There is some great posing but make sure you pay attention to how a character’s weight shifts and that their centre of gravity doesn’t leave them off balance. The overall animation would benefit from a bit more texture in the timing and pacing to give more impact to the feel of being in “beast mode”. I really like the head twitch idea, and you could push the pose further to make the character appear more possessed, animalistic and beastly. The charge attacks are good, but would benefit from a quicker and more impactful strike (as they are in your reference footage). Further kudos for seeking out feedback during the development of the project too!
