- The concept is super indepth. I really hope you keep working on this and show your work for it! It's pretty big in design according to your GDD but don't give up. The movement was good and the style of your models are a very good start.
Did you include your Game Design Document as a Google Drive link?
Yes
Seriously... did you include your Game Design Document?
Yes
Is your game set to Public so we can see it?
Yes
Tell us about your game!
Primary this is a story/exploration game. Think Disco Elysium primarily. However we shifted the subject matter to something more approachable for most people. Psychology? Maybe not massively more approachable, but its something. It also won't be in your face, the key here is subtlety.
The concept in short:
The alchemical process ≈ psychological development. This is shown as characteristics of one's shadow. How does this work? What effects would this have on people and society? Could it be used for something? Good, bad, both? How well does this world even understand itself? How is life for the people? What could this mean for you? Find out in Stark Contrast (when its done...)
Including the story, we also plan to lean into the puzzle elements to keep a bigger focus on game-play over exclusively dialogue. Both to increase broader appeal, and because writing at the level of DE could add years to the development. Not that we plan to write it poorly ofc.
Not much of this in-game at the moment. (Read: nothing is in-game atm) We went for something very story driven, so much of our time was spent researching and fleshing out the concept. Even then, neither the concept nor GDD is fully finished. But we wanted something "playable" to fully join the judging.
We're all very much new to game dev, this was the first time anyone of us did anything like this. Even through a lot of badly timed IRL things we managed to make something. Parts of something. And we plan to keep on making it, and hopefully a full release for Stark Contrast (name subject to change) happens in the future.
Extra Notes
Thanks of the opportunity. This has been so much fun, and we plan on keeping at it. I already look forward to Pirate Jam 16.
