  • I found the combat and overall playstyle to be done fairly well. Personally, I wasn't entirely a fan of the directional-based combat, but I was able to get a hold of the controls while taking on enemies. The artistic style chosen for this game was done very well, too. I found myself wanting to explore as much as I could while playing. The music was also a nice touch for the game; enjoyable to listen to while figuring things out. As for the use of the themes, I didn't really see how either fully fit into the game as a whole, so even after looking at your GDD and seeing your explanation of how you interpreted things, I didn't feel that using the environment or the enemies you faced to represent shadows was all that unique or creative. As for alchemy, I would have liked to see how crafting potions would be done in this type of setting that would create an interesting approach to the gameplay you already provided as well. In the end, I do feel that the work you presented was done quite well, and I do plan to check this game out again. Keep up the good work, all the same.
  • I love the art style and the music you have, and the game runs really smoothly, I especially like how the room transitions are actually smooth instead of just clipping to the next room. However, I cannot see how the game aligns with the alchemy theme although I did notice in your GDD but this was cut due to time - some nice complexity in there! I hope you continue work in this game, this is really awesome and enjoyable

A really simple but nice 1 bit pixel art style game.

I really liked the 1 bit style and design of the monsters but the character kinda got lost sometimes when near other objects and it was hard to see where they were. I wish there was some sort of explanation for the compass at the top because I thought it was a timer at first and was so confused why it was pointing all over the place. It wasn't literally right before I returned to the original room with the potion that I realised it was pointing towards my objective.

The audio was retro and chiptune like and the SFX were nice and crunchy, very 1-bit retro game feel that I thought fit quite well.

I didn't see the point of using the sword at all to be honest as the bow just carried me through the game without any issues. I wish there was an explanation that there was wall jumping, it seems weird that the instructions in the first 2 rooms are so clear but then totally forget to mention the compass or the wall jumping. Still I got through the game fine.

I thought the level design was nice and falling back to the location of the 1st potion after getting the 2nd was nice. Although I think it might have been longer? Haha. Maybe that was your intention.

Overall a fun little experience and a nice little game :)

Very nice game, it's fun alternating between the bow and dagger to be able to clear each room faster. Smooth movement.
