  • I really enjoyed the Character art. personally I think maybe a pivot from 2.5D into 2D would make this shine even more. I understand that this is made in a short time, but I felt that I missed a short explanation in the game to explain the mechanics, but it was intuitive enough that I figured it fast. so + points for that.
  • Decent game with a fun combat system. I think the controls were a bit counter-intuitive. I constantly found myself pressing the wrong keys to go the direction I wanted to go. It's artistic and stylish, but maybe to your detriment. Regardless, a well put together game. Fun. Keep at it!

Did you include your Game Design Document as a Google Drive link?
yes

Seriously... did you include your Game Design Document?
yes, in the description

Is your game set to Public so we can see it?
yes

Tell us about your game!
This is a deckbuilding, strategy, rpg that combines the fun of customizing your deck to fit your play style with the smooth experience of an intuitive combat system.

The Character is an alchemist who has been called in by the mayor of a local town after demons invaded. The church had sent exorcist but they have since gone missing. You are now the only hope of this small township in reclaiming their beloved church.

The game controls similarly to slay the spire but with a twist of mana to cast is gotten by exchanging cards in your hand for mana. I chose to do this because I always enjoyed in TCG games when you could play many cards on your turn, there is something satisfying about complex combos. The crafting system allows the player to modify their deck to contain the cards that batter suit how they want to play.

Extra Notes
It's definitely not a polished game by any means but by far I am quite happy with my progress compared to the last game jam. Thanks for pushing me to finish projects and collaborate with others.

Some devices, such as mine,  cannot run your game without SharedArrayBuffer turned on.

This can be found in the game's edit page at the bottom.

Thank you for the feedback. Being unfamiliar with web game dev on itch.io I figured that setting was enabled by default when I enabled it in the settings.

for the current version of Godot, Web builds will not work without SharedArrayBuffer enabled in the project page settings. although there is a glitch with itch.io. if you are using the Game Jams random submission feature, Godot web games wont work regardless of SharedArrayBuffer, although it can easily be fixed by opening the game page in its own tab. so if you have it enabled and someone still says it doesn't work, its likely they are viewing it through random game jam submissions.

Thank you for the heads up, I'll remember that for future submissions!

The art is cool and the overall style and presentation is unique - I love the mixing of 2D art with a 3D background. I liked how seamless the transition between the world and the battle was for the turn based segment. I would have liked to be able to control the camera somehow because there were cases when the enemies were hidden behind objects. Also, cool boss music! :)

Hi! Thank you for the feedback! I would say the decision to have the battles take place in the environment instead of in a Battle scene (like in Pokemon or Octopath Traveller) was a mixture of originally wanting to design a first person game and my girlfriends love of Wizard 101. So i decided to have the battles work similarly to wizard 101 where running into monsters pushes you into a specific spot in the environment. The camera problem was a known issue but given the time limitations I decided to ease the burden on our 2d artist by locking the camera to one angle. Ideally this rotation could be changed like in dungeon crawlers such as Titans Quest. There would also be dissolve on the environment blocking the camera  but getting the game play completed was a priority and honestly took up until the last day or two. The boss music was written by the same person who wrote the music for our last game. He's a talented musician and I invite him to these competitions to push his boundaries. If you're interested his credits are in the description and our other game jam submission "Bleeding Hearts" is available to play which has 8 unique tracks written by him.

nice character art

Developer

Thank you, our character artist worked very hard to make the character feels 3d while still being 2d. She has made many wonderful art pieces including in our previous game "Bleeding Hearts". If you're interested check that one out and in the button should be several examples of character art in our dating sim.
