Judge feedback

Judge feedback is anonymous.

  • Real interesting take on the jam, but I'm unsure if you can actually call this game as there's not necessarily a win or lose condition. Regardless, this is really cool!

Did you include your Game Design Document in your downloadable files?
Yes

Tell us about your game!
You will be operating a slime mold simulation software.
Three species of slime mold interact with each other, you have to focus on a specific species, The Subject. You have to ensure that The Subject is the last species standing at the end of the simulation. Other species are The Predator, which tries to hunt The Subject and The Prey, which is hunted by The Subject. During gameplay you will achieve milestones, which allows you to gain greater control over the simulation parameters of each species. Modifying the parameters is a key gameplay element and required for guaranteed success.

The game controls are as follows:
Mouse to interact with the UI, you can open and close UI windows as you wish, you can also move them around to define your own UI layout that you like, just as you could in a real simulation software.

Keyboard can be used for ease of navigation:
W/A/S/D for panning, E/Q for scaling the simulation area.

A huge part of the submission is the Experimental mode, which unlocks after completing the tutorial section. In this mode the user can freely set the parameters beyond a reasonable predetermined limit and can observe the behavior of slime mold simulation without the gameplay restrictions and balance of the regular mode.

Along the mutator.exe you will notice a few files:
mutator.resource - stores the assets
mutator.save - save file, initally there for lore purposes
mutator.ini - UI initialization file, initially there for lore purposes
manual.pdf - MUTATOR Operational Manual
notes.txt - notes left by the previous user, contains interesting simulation parameter settings

Did you remember to include your Game Design Document?
Yes

Is your game set to Public so we can see it?
Yes

Extra Notes
Unfortunately, as this project was made without an actual engine, rather using my own framework and raw platform APIs, it is likely that it will be disliked by antivirus. I hope this will not hinder the judges ability to evaluate my work.
