Did you include your Game Design Document in your downloadable files?
yes

Tell us about your game!
A first time jammer with an RPGMaker project. GDD and itch.io page have probably TOO much detail. It's a dark fantasy world inspired by my own homebrew TTRPG stuff, which in itself is inspired by a bunch of things you can read about in the GDD!

TLDR; FF6 in a blender with Fairy Tail, Berserk, and a D&D sourcebook.

PS: The game is a little overtuned... Take 3-5 bonus levels from the cheat crystal for best experience otherwise it's hard mode. Total playtime (story) 30-90mins depending how much you like to explore, and a bunch of replayability via the special testing npcs.

Did you remember to include your Game Design Document?
yes

Is your game set to Public so we can see it?
yes

Extra Notes
I feel guilty about using RPGmaker when everyone else is big brain making all their own stuff. But "use your tools", right?

I'm a first timer and one man band, so I definitely made use of community assets and some paid plugins to get me going. I've credited and followed the jam rules as best I can. I've also tried to edit and customize some so it's not just stock assets.

Credits page in game links to most things I used and their TOU's, and I kept track in a separate doc too just in case. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you!

Jam Judge (1 edit) (+1)

Hey! Adding in some feedback post-gamejam!

This STRUGGLED on my VM, so that might have explained why it didnt have a high score, its possible it didn't run properly on a Judges machine :) The game is a real challenge, the combat was difficult and took me a while to get used to the speed, but once I got the hang of it, it was good fun! The music was good too, although I wish I hadn't been on VM as occasionally it would stutter.

This is a really neat RPG that I would like to see expanded, although the game already has a lot of depth, so might benefit from a little more of a linear structure, but that's largely down to me getting distracted and wandering off!

I had some challenges with pathfinding where the game would sometimes just lose its destination and stop mid movement at times, but again, not sure if this is VM related

Overall, exceptionally promising, thank you for your entry!

EDIT: 0/10 for me, got ripped off by the Tarot card reader, unplayable ;)

EDIT EDIT: Apparently I ripped off the Tarot card reader so more like 11/10

Thanks for stopping by! Appreciate the followup review, friend.

And don't worry, The Tarot reader never learned how to take your gold, you actually ripped her off XD

Maybe we'll make it right for you next patch <3

So much going on! So fleshed out but I felt that I didn't know where to go or what to do besides clear some areas and get some chests. So many spells and cool things that I feel lacked the tie ins they needed, obviously to be fixed in the final. Awesome style, wanted more, found a sandbox of an adventure, left wanting the adventure. Dope Demo, cant wait to see it fleshed out.

DoomyX3's Nitpicks:

1. Lonely feeling, the game feels lonely and the npc don't stick out to me as npcs, and the boss in that weird puzzle cave doesn't look like a boss and more like a big illuminate glob

2. Too fast. The menu is too fast, the speed sometimes is too fast, and a lot of it is too much to comprehend

3 I don't think there should be enemies in the paths and puzzle room

4. the pathfinding could be better. i constantly see the character jittering when going in diagonal instead of going up then right/left vice versa

5. Unlock everything at the start? way too tempting lol.

6. Too much. The game has too many mountains, enemy encounters and wayy to man y spells at use at once. i didn't even know how to use them lol.

this game to be made in 2 weeks is amazing. the graphic art is amazing and overall its a good experience, but it also feels confusing and overloaded my brain. but with refinery could be a great experience and i will definitely check up on this game in a few weeks-months. but il probably be back. Great game. - DoomyX3

Thanks much, friend! I'm glad you enjoyed it. You'll be happy to know I've got a big patch to drop when the submission unlocks :)

Fair feedbacks! I'm not sure how much I can do about the pathfinding (assuming you are click/touching screen to move) -- those methods do just feel a bit more janky than traditional keyboard movement.  On menu speed (and animation speed) you are probably right -- I've cranked the FPS up to 60 on this game (from 15 fps),  which means any default animation is effectively 4x faster unless I've fixed it to have a longer playtime. Still trying to smooth that all over :)

But good news, in the upcoming patch, some new targeting tech comes online (spells which can do single target or all targets, old school FF style) -- so some existing spells will be combined since they no longer need 2 versions for different kinds targeting. That should help!

Thanks for visiting Asqueria <3

edit: OH you made that hectic reactor meltdown game, awesome one yourself!

Gave the game 20mins

A good first attempt at a game

Gameplay - combat is too hard, I know you say this in your comments but wasn't sure where to add levels, felt like I was having this epic battle with some weak enemies but they kicked my ass, will need other elements than those provided by RPG maker to feel truly unique,
Music       - music was pretty epic
theme       - not sure I got it, needs to be clearer?
Story         - world building, environment, talking and design felt pretty good , a good starting baseline

Developer

yeah, take a couple bonus levels before starting the adventure for best experience

theme was "its spreading"- opposite magics are spreading where they should not be (demon with light, angel with shadow, fire in the icelands, etc)

Thanks for the playthough, hope we'll see you next version!

This is *very* ambitious for a gamejam! I definitely was amused by some of the dialogue, I think you've got a good sense of humor. The cyclops winking made me snort. The proper nouns are a bit much all at once, it can be a little overwhelming when you're still trying to ground yourself in the story. I had to stop when the game crashed when I tried to get on the boat. The amount of money you get per monster vs the amount of money the inn costs is a little daunting at first. Otherwise, I'm quite charmed.

Developer (1 edit)

Thank you! And the boat, really. It actually doesn't do anything, it was a "finish that later idea", it should have just put up some text telling you it's locked haha. Oh well, thanks for the report and the test <3

edit: yep found it, fixed in future build ty again
