A browser game made in HTML5.
I want to cut Arriving Home some slack as it was made in just 36 hours but I find it hard to do so. It has no clear story; doesn’t spend any time to introduce characters; ends abruptly; and the choices don’t change much at all as you always get to the same place. The music was fantastic but in such a short game you don’t get to enjoy it much. The art is decent but doesn’t stand out from the genre.
I played Arriving Home on Linux. It never crashed on me and I didn’t notice any spelling errors. It allows you to manually save whenever you want and has 54 save slots but you won’t need them. Alt-Tab doesn’t work.
Game Engine: Ren’Py version 7.3.5.606
API: OpenGL
Version Played: 1.0
Disk Space Used: 146 MB
CPU Usage: 0-6 %
RAM Usage: 1.6-1.7 GB
I finished my first play through in just 3 minutes. You can see the rest of the combinations for choices in a little under 5 minutes if you skip to the choices. I have no idea about what the game is about; who you play; what their goals are; what happens or how it ends. Nothing is really explained or explored. I struggle to think of a reason to play the game and I can’t recommend it. I only paid $1.45 CAD for it but even that feels too much. The music is the only positive part of the game for me.
