Briefly describe your project
Dancing through the Decades is an augmented reality experience on the Miami Beach Boardwalk. You will journey from the 1960s to the 2010s and experience popular dances from each decade through our magical jukebox. Collect the quarters and throw them to the jukebox to start the dance for that decade. - 43St Boardwalk: 1960s (Under the Boardwalk), 42St Boardwalk: 1960s (The Twist), 41St Boardwalk: 1970s (YMCA), 40St Boardwalk: 1980s (Breakdancing), 39St Boardwalk: 1990s (Macarena) & 2000s(Chicken Dance), 38St Boardwalk: 2010s(Gangnam Style), 37St Boardwalk: 1960-2010 (Thriller & All previous dances)
How did you innovate on this product (VPS/ARDK features)?
I innovated by using Remote Auth, VPS, Wayspot Anchors, Maps, and Occlusion. I primarily innovated by being able to figure out how to localize at multiple wayspots. That is something that currently does not exist in Remote Auth or any tutorials on Niantic.
How did you use Remote Authoring or Maps Beta? (Optional)
I used Remote Authoring to build out all Dance experiences based on the location. I used the wayfarer app to scan private scans. I then downloaded them and built experiences by created Virtual Environments from the downloaded meshes. I used the Maps Beta to help implement multi wayspots and guide the user to the next wayspot location to localize.
How does it speak to Niantic's mission? (Optional)
Niantic's mission is to create immersive AR experiences that inspire movement & encourage exploration. Dancing Through the Decades inspires movement by walking on the Miami Beach Boardwalk. People walk, run, roller blade, and bike here all day since the boardwalk is open 24 hours. This experience also helps people explore music and dances from different decades to inspire them to move and dance or learn dances from the past that they may be able to do at their next party.
How complete is your project? (Optional)
The experience is complete. It includes a Main Menu, audio and narration within the app to improve the User Experience. I have tutorials in the experience to show the user how to scan to localize. It also provides the ability to Play Songs or Hear me sing the song in the Main Menu. I included me singing as an option due to copyright mentioned here with songs and I thought it is funny since I can't sing. Since it is complete, I can improve on it by adding to the experience. I am going to update the amount of money(quarters) you have to throw into the jukebox as you go through the decades. A quarter in 1960 is not worth the same quarter in 1980. So I will maybe do something like 1960 - 1 Quarter, 1980, 2 Quarters, 1990-2000s - 3 Quarters, 2010 - 4 Quarters. I plan on scanning at least 30 scans of the boardwalk, trying to get 10 scans in early morning, midday, and evening because I plan on explanding the experience. I want to give it to users and get feedback on enhancements and ideas to add.
