I have tried out the game, and here are my thoughts.
Art Direction/Theme:
The first thing I like already is the art style and theme. Japanese stuff is one of my favourite eras that isn't explored much in games, so it felt pretty refreshing. There is a lot of good art that I hope will maintain its aesthetic design.
Gameplay:
- As for the game itself... I am not a big fan of the game letting it attack for me. It feels like the game is playing for me, and I believe it's more fitting for the mobile platforms, which I hope you will consider it.
- There should be some safe moments for me to look around and explore to understand the gameplay. The moment I spawn, I have to rush to acquire the tools on the map. I feel like the moment I spawn, I should be greeted like how the skills system works the moment I spawn.
- The Enemy AI are pretty basic and I can easily exploit them by running away from all of them to line them up. The Enemy AI will need to diversify its movement pattern with more distinctive enemy types than simply colours. Especially how I feel it's pointless to collect the points when I am going to die easily to the horde. The points collection magnet range should be expanded as I feel like it's a small gap to collect.
- I am not sure if this is a bug, but when all the enemies are dead, it goes from '57/55' and another run, I had it '56/55'.
- There might be another bug when I complete the level or kill all the enemies in my case, nothing happens, and I don't know what to do, so some arrows or a text message would help.
Overall, I think the gameplay needs a lot of work to be engaging, but I can see this being more of a success on the mobile platforms. With enough visual and gameplay feedback added (with sounds added, of course), you should have success on it. A word of advice, try to get playtesters as soon as possible rather than feeling it needs to be fully ready. The moment you have a working playable game, just share it early as you can. It's why I did offer myself to play it sooner, haha.
