In a time when VR has been widely adapted, there is this old retro arcade machine called “CRAZY OVERLOAD”. It is huge, too damn fancy. And just like all the other arcade machine you played before, it got those dumb lights on it. If there is one thing that makes it stand out, it must be it’s cracky rating system. In , players will play as the arcade machine itself and giving real-time ratings to all those different NPC characters who’s playing this game across the screen. has two different modes: freestyle and story. In freestyle mode, players will have full access to all songs which allows you to have the throughout experience of the basic gameplay. While in story mode, the ratings you give will open up multiple storylines for each of these characters. Whether it’s to trick them with false rating, or lure them into some absurd apotheosis , it all comes down to your decision. In story mode, an arcade machine becomes the god of prophecy and blessing by coincidence. Whether those ratings are correct or not, it’s players always find their ways to interpret the results into fortunes. When men bow in front of a machine which mean to be of service, the roles of human and machine in this relationship has already been shifted. We want to ask two questions by developing this game: Why is this shift happening? And what kind of presence is machine to our kind? The music is pretty remarkable compared to it’s stained debugging work.
