  • Good use of reference from multiple sources, and special kudos for shooting personal footage. It would have been great to see personal reference for all the moves. When shooting reference try to utilise a prop (or stand in prop) that is around the same size and weight as the one in your animation it has a surprisingly big impact on pose, posture, and centre of balance. There is some good posing in the animation, but these could be pushed to be bolder and give more dynamic silhouettes. The use of a heavier prop in the reference would help with that (the sword resting on the shoulder is a good example of it feeling too light). When animating combat, it’s good to keep in mind the weight of the weapon and the variable speed of the strikes. The Idle animations feel as if they have drift or floating movement, this will usually happen if only rotation is used on the hips. Adding some translated movement helps to make the character feel as if they’re shifting the weight around and would help counteract the drifting. It would be good to see a more in-depth R&D phase, and clearer planning would have allowed for longer time perfecting the work (as highlighted in the critical reflection). Overall, the animation has a similar pace throughout, and would benefit from punctuation of fast and slow moves as well as some held poses.
  • Hey, Good job overall, I think animation wise you should concentrate on fundamentals more. There's a lack of weight and nice timing, I would work on a bouncing ball then a ball with legs before you work on a full character. Keep pushing and working hard :)
