What was the inspiration for your project?
As a first-time user on this platform, I began with the Dragon Dash tutorial by Declan Johnson on the 8th Wall YouTube channel. Inspired by Declan’s advice that “the best way to learn is to see how other games work,” I decided to overhaul the entire game.

I chose to create a car infinite runner game, drawing from my arcade car game experiences and the similar structure of Dragon Dash. Initially, I only knew how to use screen taps from Dragon Dash, so I made the car steer left and right with screen taps, which surprisingly worked as a game mechanic!

During test play, the game felt a bit boring, so I added a timer inspired from the coin pickup tutorial on YouTube to create pressure for the player. Instead of picking up clocks, it made more sense to collect fuel along the way. While exploring Niantic Studio over the week, I discovered UI elements, animations, and particle emitters, which I experimented heavily with and used to enhance the game play and visual effects. This process reminded me of the retro days when you could discover a feature and turn it into a game feature or illusion effect in your game. Thus, with all this, Highway Swayers was born.
