I kept getting stun locked and felt that once there were enough enemies, I basically couldn't fight back. The enemies kicking each other was what really saved me.
Thanks for playing! Yeah, in lieu of an official ending (e.g. running out of HP visibly), basically it's game over when you're swarmed. :) The friendly fire was a fun discovery, though, and made it more manageable to take on small groups of enemies when they are causing damage to themselves as well.
