Art is cute, and I am familiar with the game enough to play it fine, I think. I think showing a preview of next upgrade of your ability could be useful for new players to plan what the want to stick with.
I played last DD so the game isn't that different. I found this graphical bug when setting the game on fullscreen. Also, I think settings are not saving so the screen size and music volume have to be set up again each time.
I'm impartial to the new character designs. I think my least favorite one is the furry barbarian because he weird me out a little bit while the knight wearing a completely ineffective scarf over his metal plate is the most endearing.
I also can't seem to find any logic in the unlock order, it's not like the dog is any more complicated than the rogue. Losing a bunch of times gets a bit tiresome too since new characters are the biggest source of variety during the first few rounds of each game.
Last time I played this was DD49, its like a completely different game. For the better! The SFXs sounds great and the music is nice. Graphics are nicer too. In general just feels better to play.
That being said I have a really annoying stutter every ~2s, you can see it on the cursor here:
Click on the enemy as well as the HP bar to see his skills?
I probably haven't played enough to say too much about balance, but maybe discarding skills should cost a small amount and re-rolling increase in cost if you keep doing it. Again, nothing I'm sure would actually improve the game just something to think about.
do you recall if this was related to moving your mouse? i haven't been able to replicate this. either way, i attempted a fix for what i think this was in the hotfix

good idea, i plan to add it

maybe, the shop gameplay loop is still a little in flux. i think i want discarding to be returning the skill + its upgrades to the shop for you to pick up if you ever want it again, but rerolling might be too cheap

Its not related to moving the mouse, you can still see it in the background for example when not moving it. Still happening on the latest version.
i wish i knew, but i can't imagine what's causing it. is there something exceptional about your PC? maybe you have two monitors and SDL thinks they have different refresh rates when trying to v sync or something
Well I do have two monitors with different refresh rates. But I tried unplugging one now and changing it to 60 Hz and it still happens. I do know it didn't happen back in the DD49 version, but yeah no idea.

Finally, the placeholder music is quite pleasing.
thanks for playing again! yeah, it's pretty similar gameplay-wise to last time
thanks for reporting it. i'm not able to replicate it, but i think i have an idea what it was. i'll push the fix in next week's version
volume saving is also added in the next version, i'm not sure if i want to force a different screen size on startup so it's left as it is for now
my impression was completely the opposite, i thought the later unlocks require more technical play so i tried to keep them away from new players

Changing resolution setting stops the music.

thanks for playing and the kind words!
