Escada Games' Sixth Season

a collection by Escada Games · last updated 2023-07-11 22:14:03

Begins: Apr 21, 2020, with Pigeon Ascent for the LD Jam #46.

Ends: Aug 20, 2020, with Pickaxe Tower for the Miz Jam #1.

Highlights: Pigeon Ascent. It is until today basically our most successful game, and did really well on the fun category at Ludum Dare #46. Someday we want to expand on it. Also, I have "precious" memories with Serpent: i made it entirely using the TIC-80 on my smartphone, at the bus trips I had to do to go to college.

A game we made very quickly for Mizjam #1. Some time ago we had a pair of ideas for a platformer: in it, you could vault using a lance, or use an axe as a kind of grappling hook. We tried to mix both these ideas in a pretty simple but well polished platformer, where you use only your mouse to play!

We might even make a mobile version someday, who knows.

Our entry for the GMTK's Jam 2020. It was more or less a bet... we did not have a really solid idea, the time was very short, and at the beginning of the development process we run into a lot of glitches.

After failing horribly for the first hours, we gave up on developing Delay Mage. However, later that day, I thought about giving it another try, but this time, instead of trying to rush the code, I decided to keep it simple and code my way: as long as it worked, it worked, and polish was given a higher priority.

We did not make top 100, but we're quite happy with the result. Dang, we made Delay Mage in less than 24 hours, in the end!

Serpent was a snake clone intended to be pretty simple from the start, since the Fantasy Console Game Jam #5 was about the same time as the LDJam #46.

Still, it was quite fun to develop this game! I tried to use a bit more math than the usual with the positioning of the snake and its body (I used a bit of trigonometry and polar coordinates), and also tried to keep my code under 100 lines. Adding screen wrapping was interesting as well, since it used the modulo operator (%), which I don't use a lot.

At april 2020, we joined the 46th Ludum Dare, in an attempt to go back to game developing. We got a lot of rust from being way from developing... still, we ended up Pigeon Ascent being our first game for the sixth season, taking off a lot of our rust!
