This is a hand-curated collection of 44 creations-- games, zines, and other media-- that are about people who are nonbinary, genderless (agender), genderfluid, genderqueer, bigender, or who do not identify as only a man or only a woman all of the time.

I personally select and review each creation in them to make sure they meet the criteria of queer positivity, authenticity, and quality, even if they are different than my own views or experiences as a queer person myself.

About: An anthology of illustrations and comics by nonbinary people about what it's like to be nonbinary for them. As described by the creator:
"The nonbinary experience is unique to each individual. No two people are going to experience gender in the exact same way, much like they won’t experience the world in the same way. That said, in a world literally built against recognizing and accommodating us, a lot of our experiences are going to overlap.
"Through this project I wanted to explore the (ironically named) duality of being nonbinary: that our struggles are often shared, but our identities and selves are entirely unique. About: "Third Option is a simple game about reaching outside the options you're given. It takes the form of a conversation (written, spoken, or otherwise), and requires no extra materials. Recommended as an icebreaker, idle distraction, or grounding exercise."
Vibe: Thoughtful, playful.
Curator's note: The game doesn't mention nonbinary genders, but personally I think it's ideal for getting that idea across, and for sharpening the skill of thinking outside of other boxes.

Queer themes: Nonbinary protagonist. Inspired by the beginning of the Pokémon game where the professor asks if you're a boy or a girl.

Medium: A visual novel created in Ren'py. There are a few meaningful choices, so you can replay to see other events. The ending gives a percentage of how much of the script you've unlocked.
About: This is the story of Casbah's first week living with their partner Marta... in an abandoned morgue.
Queer themes: You and your partner are both nonbinary.
Vibe: Very queer and punk. Tough as well as cozy. They love each other so much. I teared up a few times.

Queer themes: This has sex advice for trans women, trans men, nonbinary people, and their partners.

Medium: Book. Fantasy novel.
Story: A company invented cleaner sources of power for the city. Why is someone stealing them? Because she discovered that the power comes from the stolen souls of witches like herself. She can't safely come forward with this information yet, and a police officer is hot on her trail.
Queer themes: Pretty much every character has one or another queer identity. Its focus is on characters who are genderfluid or on the asexual spectrum, and how they have feelings for one another.

About: You are a government worker. At your desk, you receive paperwork and other items. Put each into an appropriate pneumatic tube.
Queer themes: You have to sort everything into either "male" and "female." What do you do with things that aren't either one? This game uses a satirical scenario to poke fun at the gender binary. The more carried away you get with trying to sort everything in the world into one of two categories, the sillier it gets.
Vibe: Humor.

About: The author talks about how the punk subculture resonates with hir as a nonbinary person.

Content: Rated PG. Contains references to cissexism, menstruation, and sex.
Medium: A personal zine of poetry.
About: A nonbinary poet made these seven poems by clipping words out of the informational leaflet that came with their birth control pills that they take to reduce bleeding. The poetry highlights how the leaflet calls some of the desired effects of this medicine "side effects," and how health resources don't mention nonbinary people.
Vibe: Sarcastic yet genuine.
