The weakly interacting massive particle (WIMP) is a dark matter candidate made up of exotic particles.

Possible remnants of the primordial universe are unstable, weakly interacting particles. An example is the neutrino, which has a very small, if any, mass. Normally, even assuming that the neutrino is massless, it is also plausible that it has a finite mass. There are so many neutrinos left over from the big bang that a mass of 50 eV, or one ten-thousandth of an electron, is enough to keep the universe closed. Although experiments to determine the mass of the neutrino are carried out in many countries, these experiments are currently inconclusive. The current value for the upper limit of the mass of the electron neutrino from tritium decay experiments is around 10 eV. Other types of neutrinos may have larger masses.
