These are the games here on Itch.io that I think y'all should play! Maybe that was obvious from the collection title, but who the heck knows? I hope you find something that interests you. If there's a game you love that you think should be here, please let me know!
This was a really powerful game and I'm still crying over it. Losing a loved one is so hard, even moreso when it's to something horrible like cancer or another terminal illness. I've been there too many times and this game hit really hard. But I think it'll hit anyone really hard, whether they've lost a loved one or not.
This maker is absolutely gorgeous! It's so much fun to play with. <3
As a bipolar person, I really appreciated this game and it actually made me cry. The metaphor was beautiful and I really want to start using it (along with a few other games) to explain to people what it's like to live with bipolar disorder.
This was just interesting. I've only gotten 3 of the 7 endings so far. I can't wait to see what the other endings lead to. I imagine nothing good, but we'll see.
A creepy and interesting look at the price of beauty. What would you give up in order to make yourself more physically attractive? How would that change your non-physical qualities?
I recommend this as a resource to use when someone has hurt you and you don't know how to talk to them about it. It gives valuable insight for that person to experience and hopefully learn from their interaction with you that caused the harm.
Very reminiscent of Papers, Please (one of my favourite games) if you played from the immigrant perspective. Definitely worth playing and possibly sharing with family members or other people in your life.
Trigger warning for abortion, bodily autonomy, etc. I recommend this game, especially to those who have never had to experience the steps involved in getting an abortion.
I want to use this with the teens at my work to talk about DV and how we can help our friends and ourselves create better relationships, get out of harm's way, and make things better in our community. It's a simple game with three endings (1 Good, 2 Bad) and it mirrors some real-life experience I have on both sides of the equation. It's definitely worth playing.
A fun tarot spread generator. Definitely interesting for those who want to do tarot but not commit to a deck just yet.
I absolutely love this! It's so much fun to see all the different monster girlfriends I can make for myself. I have been spreading the gospel of Monster Girl Maker ever since I found it last week.
Red Rooms are one of my favourite urban legends. Add to that some witchcraft and you have the top two reasons why I recommend this game. My only complaint is that I played it on PC and not my mobile. Will be tracking down the mobile version for subsequent playthroughs.
Though the game was a bit clunky on my laptop, I recommend it for the experience of playing a game on an important world-wide issue: sex trafficking. Definitely may be triggering for some, so please take caution, but play this game and educate yourself on this important issue.
This is a fun game all about consent and comfort with regards to sex and sexuality. I recommend it especially because there are so many customizable aspects to this game that really help the player feel as comfortable as they need to be in order to get the playthrough finished to a satisfying ending -- whether that ending involves sex or not.
A cute, sapphic dating sim. Definitely good for killing an afternoon while consuming multiple cups of coffee and really wanting to get this gal to dig you super a lot.
This is my favourite game. I am so blessed to have attended a panel hosted by Zoe Quinn and Anita Sarkesian that went into even more detail about the process and life behind this game. Whether you have depression or not (but especially if not because you will learn a whole junk ton of shit you will be so grateful that you will never have to experience), you need to play this game at least once all the way through. I would recommend getting as many endings as you can because each playthrough just enhances the experience of the game.
Though this game has been described as "friend zone: the video game", I think it's actually an important look at that trope and idea in video games and relationships. Plus, the format and nostalgia bomb I got from it was a really nice touch.
This game is one that I'm really glad the internet bullied me into playing. It's super rough, so please play it when you are doing very well with your mental health or have your self-care kit on standby.
