List of the games on Itch that impressed me this year. In no particular order.

Fight your way through the ruins of an ancient facility.
Shooter

Oh this is super fun. Only just started it but adding to my fav's of 2017.

Tacoma
$19.99
The Venturis Corporation wants their AI back. That's where you come in.
Adventure
XenosNS says

Didn't have the tension of Gone Home but enjoyed the story, especially the mechanic of rewinding the same scene to see other parts of the area.

A Normal Lost Phone is a game about exploring the intimacy of an unknown person whose phone was found by the player.
Adventure
XenosNS says

I've played a few found phone games this year and this one stood out.

A contemporary survival horror about debt, family and the truth about honesty.
Adventure
XenosNS says

Abrasive fiction game on the themes of present and coming financial crises. This game does not lie about not giving a fuck if you're comfortable with it.

A game about eggs. Made for #AGBIC jam 2017.
Role Playing
XenosNS says

Surreal game broken up into multiple play styles.

Eggs.

A puzzle platformer about losing your hat.
Platformer
XenosNS says

Enjoyable platformer with an interesting hat mechanic using physics.

Will you write the way into her heart?
Visual Novel

Took a while to reveal it's true face but when it does, damn!

A death-positive game where you play as a mortician tasked with running a funeral home
Visual Novel
XenosNS says

Was looking forward to this one as my father was a funeral home assistant when I was a child. Enjoyed seeing the trade presented in a positive light as the important service it is and not as a gruesome joke. Could of been longer but got the point across.

Place the drive into the gynoid body.
Adventure
XenosNS says

Disturbing interactive fiction game that asks you to contemplate what counts as sentience.

Your daughter is having a party.
Adventure
XenosNS says

Touching story of a mother watching her child and friends explore their talents, feeling proud but also some shadows of regret.

Journey through the past, the present, and the future of a celebrated Maritime dish
Play in browser
XenosNS says

Amusing homage to the mighty donair. Quickly dives down a Frog Fractions like rabbit hole.

talking to yourself in a dream
XenosNS says

In high school we did an exercise in English class where we wrote a letter to our future self discussing our hopes and dreams. This game is like the reverse of that.

historical public bathroom simulator

Yang finds the most amusing ways to portray gay conventions and history. Intense risk reward system. The gun shaped members are a clever commentary on censorship, especially as a response to the reaction to his own games.

A Japanese ghost story hand-painted with watercolors
Adventure
XenosNS says

Creepy story and beautiful hand drawn art work.

Baba Is You, Wall Is Stop, Rock Is Push, Flag Is Win
Puzzle
XenosNS says

Excellent context based puzzle game. Love the concept and excited that a larger version of the game is being developed.

At the end of everything, hold onto anything.
Adventure
XenosNS says

Funny, mysterious and some times thought provoking. Conveyed the anxieties of the generation behind me more clearly than some news pieces. Great music and art work.

Dujanah
£4.99
The cost of seeking impossible goals
XenosNS says

A harsh stew of contemplation on death and the fear of loss. Full of rabbit holes, surprises and play styles. Also includes an amazing soundtrack, especially the song from the game's trailer.

A narrative survival game about sailing away from your homeland
Adventure
XenosNS says

Thoughtful survival game with a heart. Think many of us can relate to wanting to just board a raft and float away from our islands of stresses.  Excellent soundtrack as well, worth listening to on it's own.

Where The Goats Are is a slow-paced, meditative game about life and raising goats.
XenosNS says

Devastating  vignette about trying to maintain a sense of stability in the face of a coming disaster.

EVERYTHING IS GOING TO BE OK is a nihilistic horror comedy zine-game about life
XenosNS says

Equally amusing, cute and disturbing. This interactive zine playfully portrays anxieties of living in the online modern world. And the bunny blobs are adorable.
