Games by others I am a huge fan of and probably replay more than the devs may ever expect xD
My favorite visual novel ever made, hands down! The game is jam packed with content, with multiple routes that all give a piece of the truth, lots of mystery, thrills, and horror! I love how it has 2 opening videos (one that unlocks when the final path is revealed), and all the CGs and choices of music and the characters, and words cannot describe how much I love this VN! I even managed to get all 29 endings once, and yes I still replay this game to this day! It means so much to me and helped me through a very difficult year!
Another amazing supernatural themed VN with horror aspects! Although it's only a demo, it's a LOOOOONG demo, with amazing art and excellent writing. I wish it was finished, but even so I still enjoy what was produced for it because what is there is absolutely FANTASTIC you are in for a ride! The scene between Sho and Voltaire standing apart but having a conversation is just *chef's kiss* the best prose I've ever read! Chilling, haunting. You can feel Sho's ecstatic insanity and Voltaire's cold anger and the CGs for it are STUNNING!
A cool sci-fi themed kinetic novel that has full voice acting and feels like you're watching an anime!
A surprisingly fun free roaming RPG Maker MV game that seems very basic on the surface, but has a lot to offer for what it is. 4 selectable MCs with their own story, a large world map where you can visit any continent freely (and more once you get an airship), lots of side quests you can do in any order, it's really fun to have a game this open ended with a basic premise, unique party members to recruit, lots of side quests and events, and I also really love the elemental magic academy you can visit and assign your characters an element they can learn. You can tell a lot of heart was put into this game and you will find yourself immersed in this world immediately. It may not be super story driven and the dialogue can feel a little basic or stilted, but it's still loads of fun and I think is worth giving a try!
A fascinating, intense dystopian tale that takes place in the Philippines, in the city of Neo-Manilla where skin contact is illegal and dealers known as Intimi sell human contact (hey now, get your mind out of the gutter -- it's simply touch like hugs and hand holding!) Clients desperately seek out the intimacy they have been deprived of... you can't even be embraced by your own friends and family as a horrible disease known as Mother is only contracted via skin contact, so the job of an Intimus is extremely dangerous. Yet the lack of intimacy causes many people to die of freezing. It's a truly dangerous world, with the conflicting feelings of the fear of Mother vs. the desperation for human touch. It's only a demo, but even what is available here, the pseudo-endings are satisfying, and I hope one day the devs decide to finish it!
This game truly is an experience! I love the concept and the retro style graphics. It's very atmospheric and really pulls you into another world with each level being very unique and interesting to explore!
This game is SUPER HILARIOUS! Full of puns, memes, and just outrageous events, you'll find yourself laughing out loud... like for real... but also there's some surprising depth as Neim tries to find the truth about her supposed "pun curse". You'll be pulled in immediately by the eerie opening. I love all of the routes, Rico's being my favorite, but Lynne's side story is the BEST PART OF ALL in this entire game! If you're looking for a long, full length VN with lots of laughs but some unexpected twists, you'll love this one!
An simple but adorable cooking game with a mouse that helps you fire roast meat, dice rolling for ingredients, and a nice soundtrack! There is no losing in the game, it's all about how high you can get your score within 12 turns!
A little open-world game that is surprisingly packed with content for only taking place in one town! Lots of activities, quests, recruitable characters (that you get to have conversations with!), and a fun battle system! I love how this whole town feels alive with all its interesting characters! You're in for a good time ~
This VN is rather simple, a slice of life, yet there's a special mystique about it. A mysterious girl walks in on the MC's life, and although everything is completely normal, how it's all executed makes it feel almost mystical, it's hard to describe. The game was very cozy at times, borderlines whimsical, but also it was downright HILARIOUS since both his sister and best friend are otakus and it's just haha, but overall it's a strangely whimsical experience with an interesting twist!
This VN is just so precious... it's beautiful, bittersweet, makes me laugh, makes me cry.... every single time, it's short but precious... simple but elegant... it just leaves me in a puddle of emotion!
An amazing post-apocalyptic VN with a very unique concept, being loosely inspired by Revelation. I absolutely love the coloring style, I hope it'll get finished one day because it's so well written with interesting characters and focuses on a subject not much Christian media touch on enough (that being, corruption inside the church and hateful people holding high positions in it). The ending was such a cliffhanger, there's more than meets the eye and I can't wait! It just incorporates so many of my favorite things; post-apocalyptic, demon hunting, fun characters, etc.!
A short but sweet RPG Maker adventure, following a young man named James who--after experiencing a nightmare--is whisked off to a strange, faraway place where he must obtain all the pieces of the Armor of God. I absolutely loved this story, it felt warm and wholesome, I loved how talking to the townspeople helped you obtain another piece, and the use of scripture was inserted in meaningful ways rather than being shoved in there. You really feel like you're in a dream, a happy dream for the most part, and are equipped with the tools for the trials of life!
This game is a clunky, janky mess... and that's why I love it! The absolutely ridiculous cutscene is definitely one of this game's strength with how we're introduced to our protagonist, cyber cop FRANK MALLONE. The voice acting is cheesy in all the best ways possible, the weapons sound worse than the DOOM pistol, level design is...umm...and lots of enemies end up getting stuck together. It's beautiful. Too bad it's only one level.... episode 2 WHEN?!
"Kohana" is a short visual novel that packs an emotional punch! From the art style, to the music, to the story, it's a simple but precious gem with both epilogues worth exploring. I also love how the choices are which confections you choose to make, and how you can hover over certain Japanese terminologies in the text to display a little note of the word's meaning (which also unlocks in a glossary). It's a really neat way to explain them without getting in the way of the narrative with heavy-winded explanations inserted in. Really check this VN out if you love stories about childhood friends and youkai!
Well... this game is an experience, I'll tell ya. And I can't say much without spoiling it so... you really have to dive into the deep dish yourself! It's crazy, hilarious, nonsensical, all over the place, and the art is lovely to look at! It's just.... go try it for yourself, you won't regret it!
Let's see.... interesting MC, check, a childhood friend, check, a mystery, check... it's on a train, bonus check, hollowmead's amazing art check check... this amazing game is just, wow, it had some unexpected story elements and I just LOVE the characters so much, and the extra element of having to keep all of Robin's lies straight just really added an extra layer of stakes, every choice matters and it may not be that easy to pass certain obstacles. The prose flows nicely and is simple yet fancy, my favorite style!
Currently only a prototype, but still with a lot to offer, "Sub Mortis" is a horror game with an immersive atmosphere and a fun phone mechanic! I love how puzzle solving feels tense due to how ominous everything feels, from the poor lighting and rooms being void of other people, to normal notes building up to noticing something off, and the strange sounds you hear in the vents. The fact nobody knows what is going on makes the build up in this level that much more creepy! I can't wait to see what's in store for further updates, but for now, I TOTALLY recommend giving this a shot as it is. You won't be disappointed!
I just love this VN so much! Only 12k+ words and made within 4 days I think it was, wow! I've already played this story multiple times, I love it THAT MUCH! I enjoyed the mystery and slight horror elements, and was pleasantly surprised by certain aspects. Also as much as I adore Ending 3, I must say Ending 2 was my favorite!
This game is so simple, but so sweet, and had me laughing and grinning the entire time! Marty is such a funny MC, trying to re-create manga cliches which ends up disastrous! I also love the chibi art in place of CGs, they were so cute! And I just adore it, I've already played it multiple times, and Warren is best boy!
This game is just breath-taking. The prose is flowy and elegant, the visuals are lovely, the music is pleasant, and the VOICE ACTING IS AMAZING! It's amazing how a simple back and forth of letters could be so interesting, and I love how the MC is you, the player, reading these letters for an investigation, it just helps you feel so immersed and it's honestly a work of art!
I have a thing for parody RPGs, they're my favorite in the genre, and this does not disappoint! With a gorgeous use of Time Fantasy tilesets, original character portraits, and a cast of whacky characters, what's not to love? I enjoyed the combat system, it was generally super fun, the dialogue had me laughing out loud a lot and I just love experiencing this to bits!
Wow... this game... if you're looking for an in depth western, this ain't it, but if you're looking for a good time then look no further than STALEWATER. You play Marshall McGraw, who wakes up in a jail cell and is thrusted into the role of Marshall. There's dialogue trees, so bad it's good voice acting, and an interesting twist in the end, and the main characters have quite a walking animation. You'll probably have no idea what the heck you just played, but you won't regret a minute of it!
Sayumi just has this writing style I adore! This VN was really funny and I loved Emi's sarcasm and Kou was a perfect contrast to her, but there were plenty of moments that also made me feel warm!
IT'S SHOWTIME! This short but sweet story stars an adorable magical girl and a lot of fun banter with the detective chasing her! I just love it so much, it really brought a smile to my face and I think it will do so for you too ^^
You play a poor craftsman named Van, struggling to afford his next month's rent... that is, until a lovely swordswoman named Maya appears in his shop in need of a sword to prove a worthy craftsman for her guild! It's a short, linear story (with 3 quests total), but has crafting and fun battles! Plus it has 3 modes for all sorts of players; Story Mode (no battling), Casual (easy difficulty), and Normal!
When the theme of your jam ends up being "one button" and you take a really dramatic spin on it! You play Eva, a woman who works for the king who has BANNED ALL BUTTONS. You must confiscate these illegal use of buttons! This game is so hilarious and janky, and Eva's signature flip kick move is legendary xD
A twine adaptation of the TTRPG of the same name. This version does a fantastic job of adapting the game for the computer. You type in your log entries based on the prompts you're given as you explore, there's neat graphics for the planets you visit, and you get to name them upon departure. True to the original, you can either keep or discard your entire log. A faithful video game adaptation of an already lovely analog game, and just as immersive!
It's short, it's bittersweet, but it's so well written! I love the art and how everything unfolds, it hurts at times, but it was so beautifully executed and hnng I can't help but love it and play it over and over again!
