Ultra-lite role playing game in the FKR spirit

M.A.G is a rules-lite adventure game that can be used for most genres as-is.  The game uses step die for the attributes and everything is an opposed roll. It is very flexible making it very simple to change to fit your style of game.

The game is very easy to play making it a great game for first time players. It works very well for solo thanks to the opposed roll resolution mechanics, and it uses almost all of the polyhedral die.

Since the game is so minimal and uses a simple difficulty die for opposed rolls, it is very simple to convert existing modules to use it, even on the fly. Simply assign a difficulty to the test and roll. Enemies work the same way, except they need hits. The rules include tips for creating enemies, which will be useful when converting modules.

Sometimes, Always, Rarely, Once: A tactical manifesto / SRD

S.A.R.O. (pronounced "sorrow") is a combination system reference guide (SRD) and tactical manifesto. It's a guide about making tactical roleplaying games.

The book is split into two parts. Part one is SARO: the manifesto. It's a set of rules and guidelines about making roleplaying games with interesting, tactical combat.

There are principles in here you can apply to your own games. Rules and suggestions about class design, terrain, encounter design, enemy design, item types, action economy, avoiding analysis paralysis, and more.

Part 2 is The Sorrows. It's a full Roleplaying Game about a team of superheros (the Sorrows). The game uses the principles laid out in the first part. First we tell you how it's done, then we show you. A rule, and an example.

Find out how to design powers that are interesting and fun, make combats memorable, and design games that are quick, dangerous, and provide players with meaningful choices.

SARO: Sometimes, Always, Rarely, Once.

The Ready-to-Go Roleplaying Game

Redígo ("re•DEE•go") is a game of narrative hand signs for roleplaying on the go. You can play on a walk, in a car, around a campfire, or even inside a cool fort made of blankets and chairs. It doesn't require dice, paper, or even a tabletop. All you need is a creative mind and someone to play with.

At heart, it’s a way of playing through conversation, and making decisions about your story together. You can pick up where any other tale left off, give life to your original story concept, or just take bits and pieces from your favorite legends and mash them together. It's built to accommodate any crazy ideas your players come up with on the spot, and to nurture your trust in your own creativity.

For making 2-player tabletop games

This is the Badger + Coyote System Reference Document. A free and open licensed version of Badger + Coyote that contains all the rules and design guidelines for you to make your own two player (duet) games.

Named after the original game, the system is designed for games that feature two characters of different personalities or outlooks working together: from two very different creatures, two humans who are opposite of each other, or even aliens from different planets.

The system is designed to be incredibly simple to pick up and jump into an adventure at a moment's notice, with the character duos already mostly defined.

A Creative Commons rules system for TTRPGs

The Personae SRD supports the themes of the Shadowlight RPG, where the curious investigate mysteries, explore paradoxes and delve into the hidden truths of the omniverse. Personae and Shadowlight are two sides of the same coin: when you play a Personae game, you're playing a Shadowlight game. Every unique Personae campaign is both a Personae stage and a monad of the omniverse.

Not only is Personae a complete and fully playable TTRPG system in its own right, but it's also a toolkit for creating original RPGs.

Roll-to-the-middle TTRPG game system

The Goldilocks Dice System is a TTRPG engine designed with the idea of a "happy medium" success criterion. Too much can be just as bad as not enough, but in different ways, so this system asks players to roll for the middle values on their dice, rather than looking for the highest or lowest value possible. Indeed, both those values represent disaster!

This system inherently makes failure far more interesting, because the roll automatically inspires different ways, and consequences, of failing depending on whether your roll is too high (overdoing it) or too low (not doing enough).

Faff about and find out in this one-page RPG

FAFO RPG is a simple, one-page, pick-up-and-play tabletop roleplaying system about bad situations, and whether you make them worse or better by taking risks.

A solo Journaling SRD

This SRD is documentation to create 4 days, 4 season (4D4S) games.

The SRD is based on Autumn Bells by Jared Mason. The original game is available here.

4D4S games are solo journaling games about a character or object's experiences. The story is told through snapshots of the most influential years.

The game is played by laying out a grid of cards. The 4 rows represented the years selected for the game (eg 1, 5, 30, 100). The 4 columns represent the 4 seasons within the year (eg Summer, Autumn, Winter, Spring). Players turn cards over one at a time, exploring prompts and mechanics as they do.

Gamble With Fate (GWF) is my attempt at creating a fun system focused on a shared mechanic between GM & Players alike that binds them together in a strategic tug of war.

The mechanics are based around anteing and spending dice to increase your chances! But changing fate isn't always a good thing....

Versatile for any number of settings with Character Creation being a blank canvas for GMs, designers and Players alike.  Characters are only defined by their powers which usually cost a hefty price to invoke~!

Lightweight location generator for RPGs

Leap Engine is a set of core rules for playing a role-playing game with your friends. The rules are light and concise, built around a simple d10 roll-under mechanic. The game promotes the idea that players are the ones controlling how far to push certain situation. They will, inevitably, create complications for themselves and give the GM an opportunity to build on that.

BONDS gives a way share the love tabletop games with people in your life who aren't all that familiar with the hobby.

The idea behind BONDS comes from a desire to share the simple, yet amazing aspects of what it means to play and love tabletop games (known as 'TTRPGs') with people in your life who aren't all that familiar or experienced with the hobby. The game requires little no experience for both the GM and the Player, and you will only need paper, pen and 2d6 to play. Created to introduce beginners to tabletop RPGs in a way that feels both accessible and personal.

Buckle up: it's about to get CUPS in here

A system reference document (powered by the Maze)

A system reference document to create your own games with the presented principles of design.

THE PREMISE
In this document, you will not find claims of disruptive game design elements. This is just a referential and derivative work, a conjunction of design principles that draw on The Magus (Momatoes) and Archipelago III (Matthijs Holter).

Combining the very best of them into a solo story-driven game design document.

The solo mystery game system

The Hints and Hijinx system is a purpose-built solo mystery system that's easy to design mystery games for, & puts the power of deduction in the hands of the player!

Create your own content based on Firelights

This is the Firelights Creator Kit. Within this document, you will find the game's System Reference Document (or SRD) as well as a checklist of things to consider when designing your own gane Guided by Firelights.

Firelights is a condensed and open licensed solo/co-op role-playing game about a guided journey across a plagued land. It is a game of exploration, discovery, and challenges inspired by the Metroivania video game genre.

Players take on the role of a last of its kind lone-protagonist whose role is to guide back the dead back to the underworld after a corruption took over.

Using only the most accessible gaming material (2 six sided dice, a deck of card, and a notebook), players will tackle challenges, evade danger, explore and create a map of the land, fight dangerous bosses, search for treasures, and more.

A simple framework for 'any' RPG

ENI is a ruleset for role-playing games that aims to - quickly and easily - provide the adventure you seek through collaborative storytelling, growing tension, and meaningful choices. It can be played with or without a game narrator.

It was successfully funded as part of #ZineQuest4 on Kickstarter on August 31st, 2022. Like all campaigns by EX1ST GAMES, this project funded an afforestation association. Thanks to the ENI backers, we funded the planting of 100 trees.

ENI is an open-source framework available for free, for creators to modify and monetize their original content. Download the Source Code and get hacking. Your creativity will be rewarded with a Game Jam sometime soon.

If you just want to exercise your imagination or have some storylines you want to try out, then download the Zine, Character Sheet, and Journal Templates, and start playing today! For ease of play, we provided the main rules on a One-Page PDF with a Character Sheet on the back. Enjoy and let me know about the typos. Together we make games better.
