A list of gamejam entries that I participated in from 2020-2021.

Developed for LD49 under some rather problematic circumstances, BALANCING ACT is the first LD Jam produced by anchorlight as part of a team.

An end-of-semester compo entry to Ludum Dare 48, resurface was developed in 48 hours entirely from scratch.  It makes use of procedural textures and simple geometry to convey the interior of a sunken ship with various sci-fi elements.  The focus in development was to create an eerie but peaceful atmosphere in which you find various rooms and galleries undisturbed.

The biggest shortcoming of the game is a distinct lack of intriguing gameplay, from a slow pace to forced tedium in being forced to return to the introductory area.  Should any postjam efforts take place, the focus will be on additional lore and storytelling as well as some much needed mechanical overhauls to make the exploration aspect more rewarding.

Technically a 2020 jam entry, proceed was a last-minute Compo entry for Ludum Dare 47.  Hot off the heels of a scrapped idea, the game was made in less than a single day with not a minute wasted.  It's a simple platforming game with a validation system to check whether the player actually completed the stage correctly, trapping the player in a time loop if they failed to accomplish all objectives.  Wrapped in a cryptic atmosphere, what the game lacks in polish and design it makes up for in presentation.

An expanded version has been previsualized, but development has not begun yet.

STRIKER is a unique blend of childhood reminiscence, intentionally cringey OC's, and solid 2D platforming that was created in four days for Pancelor's Memory Jam.  While the art style began as a replication of bad digital drawings with checkered transparent backgrounds, stick figure enemies, and the most basic of building sprites, it quickly ballooned in scope to include a full story, two cutscenes, a setpiece stage, and two boss fights.

STRIKER will return with an art and music overhaul in the upcoming HELP Update.

APPLICANT was an ambitious immersive sim-lite/walking sim about experiencing your first day on the job in a DARPA lab.  Between ARG elements, an original score, and a focus on interactivity, it was highly ambitious.  Pulling out all the stops in presentation we planned and modeled an original map, built an interaction system with terminals, and did everything we could to make every room feel unique.  While not every room was created, the ones that did got a wealth of decorations and dynamic effects to bring each environment to life.  We even got voice actors on board to play the roles of Dr. Horatio Clementine and Dr. Chrisopher Bleu!  Unfortunately not everything came together at the end, and much of the work that went into making this living world underground has yet to be seen outside of its massive source code.

As a first collaboration I am still happy with what was accomplished and learned a great deal from the creation of this game.  I was also fortunate to have a codeveloper on board that was willing to go for the impossible in those two weeks alongside me, and we even came close to making it happen.
