Survival

This is sweet and stylish and I would die for both the demon child and the hot butch.  I love the art and the gameplay; it's short but packs a lot of characterization into it, and I would happily play an expanded version.

Interesting little VN. The art is stylish, with nice character design; the story's a little weak, with the game short enough that the hints something's off don't go anywhere. I'd be interested in seeing this expanded, with sound and more plot.

I don't speak French but I kind of love this! The art style is lovely, as are the creatures you meet along the way.  I don't know what they're saying but I love them. It's a nice, short walk around a surreal landscape collecting things. Space lets you ascend and X descend.

Platformer
Added May 26, 2023 by jaclynhyde

A really cool mechanic telling an affecting story. The actual platforming is extremely janky, though, making it frustrating to continue (and then it crashed about five screens in, so I wasn't able to finish).

Puzzle

Absolutely charming little puzzle platformer with Metroidvania elements and tons of secrets. Gave up in the endgame because one mistake in later areas requires backtracking across the entire map, but still worth playing.

A thought-provoking essay on Muppets seen through a trans lens. The text can be overly academic, but the personal aspects hit hard.

Gorgeous poetry on being a trans man. I don't usually read poetry, but this reminded me how raw and insightful it can be.

Adorable, funny VN/RPG/adventure game. The gameplay is a little janky, but the game is straightforward enough that it's not a big problem. I'm really curious how to get all the endings and side conversations!

Action

My husband and I are hilariously terrible at this, which made for a fun five minutes.

Lovely game on the history on Pride (particularly in France); the art is beautiful, and it's a delight just to walk through a piece of art and watch the animations. I wish it was a little easier to see who you can talk to, although the lack of it lets you slow down and relax. The English terminology is a little bit off due to the translation from French, but it's still informative and fun.

Exactly what it looks like--if you're really into bara, you'll probably enjoy it.

Nice artwork, but the writing didn't grab me. Probably more interesting if you're into fashion.

Sweet, fun dating sim; not much conflict, but the art and characters are cute.

Role Playing
Added Sep 08, 2021 by jaclynhyde

I don't think I like this game, but it's very striking and I'm glad I played it. It's very teenage edgy (particularly the "SJW" caricature), but at the same time it's disturbing in an authentic way. The presentation is just straight-up fantastic; the art, style, and music videos are amazing. The grim hopelessness and deliberately disgusting aspects aren't my style, but if you can handle it (and the disturbing topics) you should definitely check this one out.

Lovely interactive experience; adding controls and complexity makes a playthrough engaging. Abstract art fans would like this even more.

Sweet (and a little sad) game about making one's home. Cats!

Visual Novel
Added Sep 07, 2021 by jaclynhyde

Extremely stylish, but the writing is so poetic that I can't grasp the plot or characters to care about what's happening.

Simulation

Cute but not much to it--you have to reach out to the cats and keep the conversation going, and you have to keep entering names until you find one who's 'online.'

Visual Novel

Cute visual novel with a fun concept and gorgeous art. Some of the voice acting is great, some is irritating; the characters can also flip between relatable and unlikable.

A fun gravity-based puzzle game reminiscent of golf. Short and addictive.

Short and unsettling--I played it twice in a row. The retro graphics really work with the subject matter.

Visual Novel
Added Aug 12, 2021 by jaclynhyde

Very short and not much to it; the premise was intriguing, and I was hoping this was the introduction to a longer plot. The vignette was sweet and sad--this would work really well expanded into a full game or story .

Visual Novel
Added Aug 12, 2021 by jaclynhyde

A short, cute vignette that makes me want more of the characters; I would've liked to get to know them a bit more before the fight so I had a better first impression, though. The graphics and music are great and it makes me hungry!

Adventure
Added Jul 27, 2021 by jaclynhyde

The jerky camera movements make it difficult to enjoy the exploration without getting a headache; there's not enough interesting features in the game to power through.

Added Jul 27, 2021 by jaclynhyde

Cute little desktop friends--not much to them, but adorable animation.

Strategy
Added Jul 02, 2021 by jaclynhyde

Really enjoyable mix of tower defense and Minesweeper. It's not my usual genre of choice so the campaign levels got a little long for my taste, but solving the levels is very satisfying. If you like tactics games, absolutely check this out.

Visual Novel
Added Jul 01, 2021 by jaclynhyde

Really cute character design, but the writing isn't engaging enough to keep me reading. We barely know the characters before they start talking through their issues, so there's no hook to get readers invested and little conflict between the main characters. I'd like to see a lot more of the interesting demon stuff happening mostly offscreen (although the rest of the series may cover this). Also needs editing for grammar.

Visual Novel

Fun demo with some gorgeous character design. The story is fairly typical noir, but I'm interested in seeing how the kaiju world turns that on its head.

Very short game on burnout--a little on the nose and button-mashing a spacebar is taxing (although that adds to the disappointment and frustration the game is aiming for). Worth a play.
