Blind Men is a fun, short BL visual novel about a supervillain and his two handsome prospects. The illustrations are really nice and polished, though I do wish there were a few more full-scene drawings per route (this is just me being greedy for fluffy imagery to go with the text). The main character is likable, well-written, and feels fleshed-out, which is impressive given the game's relatively short length. After playing through one route I was intrigued enough to want to play the other endings, which speaks to the game's skillful writing and characterization. Personally I prefer Sergei's endings over Hunter's (and Sergei/Keegan in general, don't @ me) but both routes are fun. Definitely recommend for those who like fluffy BL with satisfying artwork and writing.
Edit: I've played through every route now and there are a few typos/punctuation errors, but overall I stand by my original review.
Hidden Folks is an adorable, hand-drawn I Spy type of game. The artwork is charming and the interactive elements are fun while making the game just a little trickier. Haven't finished every level yet but I'm enjoying going through the game slowly when I want to play something more relaxing.
Very short (30 min?) 3D-rendered point-and-click horror game with a couple puzzles. The game creates a creepy atmosphere pretty effectively with polished, eerie visuals and a few minor jump scares. I wish there were a little more to the story, but it's a fun gaming experience for what it is.
Meeting in the Flesh is a short dating sim/visual novel with an ungendered main character and three male romance options. Set in an alternate world that's simultaneously post-apocalyptic and alien, the game accomplishes strong world-building through effective visuals and characterization. The game is a bit prose-heavy, but it's fine because it's well-written and interesting -- despite a few typos. The illustrations are incredibly well-drawn and satisfyingly gruesome, with body horror abound and sexual situations revolving around cannibalism/vore, furries, and tentacles. The characters are all extremely likable, too, and this is one of the first dating sims that's made it hard for me to choose who my favorite option is. While the romantic relationships do involve (gross, fun) sex, they're primarily based on strong foundations of trust and tender, loving friendship. Overall, I highly recommend this for fans of well-written dating sims/visual novels or body horror.
I love Plant Daddy! This is a very relaxing and visually-pleasing game that you play in your browser. The gist is that you grow different plants with randomly-generated traits, decorate your own little apartment space (composed of a living room & unlockable bathroom), and share unique seed codes with friends to grow each other's favorite plants. It's so cute and so well-made. Definitely recommend Plant Daddy for those who want something slow, sweet, and calming but very fun.
Sagebrush is an exploration-based point-and-click horror game where you inspect a cult compound where members committed suicide years ago. The story is well fleshed-out, taking you on some twists and turns as you learn about the members and how they met their end. The game sets a perfectly eerie atmosphere with pixel visuals and limited sound, making it just the right kind of creepy for the dark themes it presents. Effective horror without jump scares. Took maybe two hours? Highly, highly recommend.
Sanguine Sanctum is a short, atmospheric, 3D horror game where the player must feed an entity that lies in the center of a sanctum. I'm not sure I fully understood the ending, but I thoroughly enjoyed exploring and playing through each twisted nightmare landscape. The retro aesthetic was very pleasing. No jump scares. Recommend.
The story wasn't quite fleshed out enough and as a result ending was dissatisfying. Some plot holes could have been avoided by adding a few more details throughout the story, like what was with the gas? There was some effectively creepy build-up with minor jump scares and well-designed environments that shift around you as you move through them, but other elements of horror fell a little flat. Unfortunately, the build-up doesn't quite lead to a fulfilling conclusion.
Supper is a cute, short 2D horror game. You point-and-click your way through a few small environments to help Ms. Appleton prepare dinner for the tavern's patrons. It's very polished, with nice sound effects and adorable pixel artwork that still manages to be pleasantly gruesome. Really nice bite-sized gaming experience -- definitely recommend.
Without Escape is a 3D-rendered point-and-click horror game with a few puzzles of varying difficulty. The visuals were great, but I found some of the music and sound effects to be a little cheesy. While there are six possible endings, the major plot *reveal* wasn't quite what I expected and honestly felt a bit detached from the story's buildup, resulting in an unsatisfying ending. Regardless, it's a fun one/two hour experience that I'd recommend to fans of point-and-click horror games.
Wooden Hearts is a fun little exploration-based walking sim horror game with a couple minor "puzzles." It's very short (10-15 min., per the developer) but still manages to tell an interesting story. Would definitely recommend it to horror fans looking for something bite-sized and not too deep.
