Adventure
Added Feb 19, 2021 by Ajogamer

While I haven't played this one for myself yet, I've seen it streamed, and really enjoyed it. The one-minute "life" limit is used well, limiting exploration, but not feeling overly punishing or frustrating due to good world design and checkpoints, ultimately providing a pretty interesting gameplay angle.

The world's fairly enjoyable to explore too, with all the goofy characters in it.

Very enjoyable RPG-style Adventure game. Explore a dying world, as you help Niko find a way to revitalize it. Despite the dystopian and sometimes somewhat eerie atmosphere, it's also fairly relaxing and cute. Story is pretty solid and entertaining, and does a few novel things.

Platformer

I've yet to play this myself, but I hear nothing but heavy praise for this game. What I've seen makes it look quite good, as well; a very well-designed platformer with tight and well-thought out controls, and a potentially interesting story.

Pretty neat Action-Adventure game/Zelda-like. Fairly simple with the gameplay, but solid enough, especially if you enjoy environment-focused puzzles (which feels more the focus). The eerie and somewhat surreal world and atmosphere also helps keep it fairly engaging, and for me, was the main appeal.

Postgame also adds a fairly neat mechanic which opens up new exploration possibilities in a novel way.

One of the best RPGs I've played. It's especially solid mechanically, being pretty well-balanced throughout, where it was consistently challenging enough that I constantly felt the need to strategize, but it never felt unfair or frustrating. The combat a combat system is fairly basic on the surface, but it turns out to have a lot of depth and choices to it, especially as you get further on and open up skill and character options. Boss fights are among some of the most satisfying I've played in any RPG; this is both due to the balance, and each boss fight feeling fairly distinct from one-another.

Story is simple, but extremely entertaining, since it's loaded with humorous and charming dialogue, and the world is very colorful and full of personality, and a joy to explore (and the somewhat creepier areas appeal to the horror fan in me).

There's a lot of content here too, especially if you choose to tackle the many, many optional dungeons. I spent slightly under 60 hours to see nearly everything (I just have a tiny bit of postgame content left undone).

Easily one of the best indie games I've played.

Action

Only played a little, but seems like a solid, if simple Zelda-like, with some slight roguelike elements (semi-randomized environments, some unidentified items). Story so far seems simple, but with an interesting enough angle to it to keep my attention so far. Also seems to have a fair amount of randomization/challenge features I've yet to really try out.

Charming Adventure/platformer/RPG(?) game, that subverts some RPG/fantasy tropes. I haven't played enough to properly judge yet, but seems promising so far.

Nice boss-focused action/run and gun game that definitely feels like it took some inspiration from Alien Soldier and other Treasure games.

I'd suggest trying out both characters, since I found the 2nd "high risk high reward" one was actually easier for me to get the hang of than the "recommended for beginners" one.
