You are the Headliner, the editor in charge of deciding which news stories to approve and which to deny. It's important for your career that you develop a strong angle, but the words you publish affect the community. The storyline is a little simplistic, using a futuristic dystopian setting and a bit of melodrama, but it's challenging and interesting to balance the needs of your career, family and community.
This game is a delight. It may be slightly optimistic, but it still provides a look at what type of decisions a Democratic-Socialist president would face and the many different interests that would have to be balanced. The slick UI and colorful animal characters help keep it feeling upbeat. If you already lean this way, it's a wonderfully cathartic experience. If you have reservations, it's a good way to get familiarized with some of the problems and issues people aligned this way are concerned with.
Based on the rule of Oliver Cromwell, this is another "this-or-that" decision-making political sim. Balance several different demands to try to outlast the real reign of Cromwell, the king in all but name. This game has a really pleasant UI, graphics and music that make it especially fun to sink into.
You're a world-leader, and you are confronted with this-or-that policy questions from concerned citizens, advocacy groups, intelligence bureaus and more. You have to balance the needs of the people with the interests of the elite or else risk losing your head (literally). For people whose favorite part of Sim City was managing resources rather than building.
A historical sim where you play as J. Edgar Hoover, director of the FBI (and notorious bastard). Manage investigations in bureaus across the country, balancing a variety of tasks both vital and petty. It's well-built and has a great tutorial system. It's also pretty complex. If you like Papers, Please, this will probably also appeal to you.
