An Update

Note: I drafted this update the day before the crackdown on nsfw content across itch.io. I don't think this will change any of what I say here, especially as I don't currently have any explicit work on my page, though it may complicate my queerer releases in the future. If you have not yet, please consider filing a complaint with the payment processors who are threatening this platform.

Life Changes

For those of you who only follow me here on itch.io, it’s probably looked pretty quiet. Last you saw of me was my release of The Spring in 2021. Kind of a dark note to leave off on, but I made that game at the precipice of some big changes in my life.

Before The Spring I was working in the arts sector as an Administrator for some Artist-Run Centres here in the PNW. As you will know if you’ve played (witnessed?) the game, I had a severe medical episode in 2021 when a conflux of love, death, disability, and isolation pushed me to the brink. Something had to change and so I changed it.

In the fall, I stopped working in arts admin, got a few grants, got involved with a few projects, and began working at as one of those silly full-time artists. I’m pretty pleased to say I have now been at this for almost four years, which as I’m writing this I’m realizing makes this the longest “job” I’ve held! I feel pretty good about that.

Two of the grants that supported this transition funded mentorships with my lovely friends Jay White (artist and now an RPG illustrator!) and Alex Roberts (counsellor and renown game designer), who taught me a lot about working with disability, leaning in to what feels good, nurturing and relying on relationships, and welcoming play as part of my practice in its many forms. I’ve been able to take on some really cool projects in the process, working on games, performances, community projects, livestreaming, sex work, freelance work, and more. You can find some of this elsewhere on the internet.

These years came with a lot of personal growth as well. After quite a few years of processing Some Shit, I reconnected with my sexuality, got second boyfriend (yay poly), and pursued diagnosis and disability supports (including treatment as of this year). Ultimately this has led me to a significantly more healthy place. I am, for the most part, well. 💗

The Future of My Itch.io

I’ve been blown away by the number of people who have checked out my projects here despite my absence. I’m not pulling record numbers by any means, but many of you continued to find me when I gave you little reason to. There is clearly room to grow here, so I want to bring this back into the fold.

Over the past couple years I’ve been writing on my blog, PinkSpace. As of today, PinkSpace has more than two years of ramblings on game ideas, JRPG analysis, gay sex, and more. My blog writing is partially supported by my Patreon, where you can sign up for free to get notified when a new post drops. If you’re willing to fund my caffeine addiction, you’ll also get Love-Letters and other little goodies from me.

Going forward, this page is going to be in conversation with PinkSpace. I want to let this be a place where I can share drafts, works-in-progress, and tech experiments I develop while working on my blog. I want to share in the process of making games, not just playing them.

I will also make these projects available at the same time for my Patrons too. That way, regardless of whether you drop a couple dollars here or decide to become a patron, you will have something to play with.

A Sneak Peek

Want to preview of what’s to come? Those pictures above weren't just for show.  All of the images in this post are from projects I've worked on over the last couple years… Which one should I release first? 🤔

PS. I cut out a huge section of this post where I talked about all of the things I have been working on in my time away, complete with links to where you can find the work if applicable. If you want me to publish it as a follow-up, let me know in the comments or over on Bluesky!
