~ The Little Librarian: Working walljumps and the first custom tiles

~*Hello Everyone!*~

It's been a while, but I'm happy to report that I've made more progress on The Little Librarian. I currently have a bunch of things in the works, so I'd like to show them off in this blog post!

As I mentioned in my last post, I did not really show off anything gameplay related. Well, in this post I plan to do just that! Right now, the game has functional movement, as well as:

Walljumping:

Item collection:

And last but not least:

Enemies that you can defeat! (Knockback included):

You will notice that in the video, I'm using placeholder sprites for the player and for the terrain. That is because I've focused on building the engine first and then focusing on making more custom assets. Whilst the implementation of these mechanics is not perfect, it's a start!

Custom Tileset for the first area of the game

I've also been spending a lot of time, building my very own tileset for the first area of the game! Gotta start building somewhere! Right now I have completed the first part of the castle level, with one hallway being done. I do want to make more tiles though, as right now the rooms are 9x16 pixels high and that does not look that well due to the camera having to zoom in. Instead I will try out different sizes. I'm very tempted to increase the size to something like 15x16 pixels instead. Regardless though, I'm super proud of what I have so far!

More weapon sprites!

New Weapon Sprites
Swords and Whips

^I updated some of the weapon sprites and I also made some new ones!

Wait, you also have music!?

Since the last post, I've also worked very hard on making some music for the game!

Title Theme:

Boss music:

And that concludes this blog post! Currently this is all I have to share. In the meantime I'll be working hard in order to make more progress on my game and give you guys more updates in the future!

Until the next one!
