Summary:
Cold front is a short, hour and a half long story detailing the final experiences of two friends, not too long before they must depart From one another. Winnie & Augustine experience a sudden blizzard while driving around are left to wander in the storm when the car is left out of function.
Pros:
This game wonderfully shows and elaborates on what insecurity and jealousy can do to one's psyche, along with the damage that can cause to yourself and those around you.
It also helps show what often happens to friendships where boundaries aren't drawn, spending TOO much time together will eventually cause resentment.
It has some very heartwarming scenes in the good ending despite it being quite bittersweet.
They make it known from a very early point that everything you are experiencing isn't real, whether it be in line with weird inconsistencies or even just outright pointing out things that don't make sense, which helps play a role in the fullness of the characters writing.
Cons:
This game has a couple pointless features, one of which being the inventory button that I had discovered by accident. Given you only ever pick up a handful of items throughout the game, it feels quite redundant. There is also a sprint function, that you get to use only once throughout the entire experience, though I may be wrong on some niche section where it is allowed, the greater majority of the time you must walk,
This game has QTEs, or Quick Time Events. Which arrive most of the time completely unprompted without a sound indicator, many of which lead to a simple "death" screen and pushing you back to the main menu, which you then need to load back to where the game lets you save, often times a couple lines of dialogue before the aforementioned quick time event so if you miss it, it is quite frustrating to wait for the dialogue to finish.
the opportunities you get to manually save are few and far between, and you can't open a pause menu in current dialogue, (which may simply be fault of the engine) but when dialogue is 88% of the game, it becomes quite frustrating.
This game does not have a full screen and if you maximize the small window, it will have the border, which tends to pull away from immersion.
This game does not have sound settings, leaving you very few options to correct any grievances with certain noises.
Overall
7.3/10
