The Future of Heartsong's Development

Recently I've come to a particularly hard decision, one that was not easy to make.

Heartsong will cease development in it's current state.

There are a few factors for this. Waning interest in Yokai Watch, me distancing myself from the community and social media in general, feeling like development was a bit of an uphill battle with feeling like tone wasn't quite meeting eye to eye, and a few other personal reasons. I was stubborn, I really wanted to see this work out, but anytime I'd open up my documents to start writing, I'd blank despite knowing exactly what would happen.

This all came to a hard rearing head when a fellow VN developer asked me to try making it an original project, and in the process I was having fun making something again. I really felt like I could flex my creative muscles in ways never felt before, and I realized what I was experiencing wasn't chronic fatigue but absolutely horrendous burnout.

I know this is very disappointing news to hear I'm sure. Everyone's positive feedback meant a lot to me and really encouraged me to want to keep that spark going because I knew everyone was excited to see where things would go, and I was excited to show everyone! But burnout really bit me in the butt and I needed to rethink a lot of things as the sole developer.

However things do fizzle out, old fires die out, but new ones can be ignited in their place. I will maybe keep news here of this original project here, but I'm also hesitant as while it retains a lot of the same things, it will be different.
