Announcement for a new VN... maybe? + status updates on previous post

馃摚 Update on my previous dev announcement:

Copied parts from the previous announcement post from two months ago, which has been deleted to reduce clutter.

- Indie VN devs Bday fanart : FINISHED

  • Hurray, at least one task is done (April birthdays) and I can sleep in peace! 馃コ See the illustrations below.

- Wrap up a colossal devlog from 2024: POSTPONED / CANCELLED ?

  • Why write devlogs when you can work on actual games instead? 馃く From the perspective of a solo dev with no budget, time is the most valuable resource.

- Live2D art practices : CANCELLED

  • It doesn't fit in my current schedule. Something for next year maybe? I also want to learn Godot but I'm working on other things.

- Update to my Ren'Py Live2D lip flap code (special thanks to Feniks for suggesting an animation improvement!): POSTPONED ?

  • I won't be looking at this for some time: game projects take precedence.

New VN... maybe?

I told myself to not announce anything and not post about the progress either. Against my better judgment - since I couldn't keep my mouth shut - that ship has already been sailed, oh well.

'Paradise That Never Was' was originally envisioned as a standalone pilot short story for O2A2 VN Jam this year,  and even with its development moved to jams with longer duration (Otome Jam 2025 and Josei Jam 2025), the spirit remains the same that it's a relatively short otome/amare VN. The scope needs to be realistic to fit my schedule and I still have no faith whether I can get unstuck from my writing block.

This is supposed to be a placeholder sketch for the itch cover, but I rather spend time on more important tasks, so I'll call it done despite it's visibly WIP when you see it up close like this.

I'll be honest, I'm still filled with dread. While making things is fun, less so with releasing games and receiving ratings for them. 馃槶 I know you can turn them off, but it's still a mystery how much it impacts a game's visibility if you have none.

- If you have a Bluesky account, I have a pinned post with some concept sketches for the main cast of the bigger otome project. All of these should be eventually reposted in a devlog with more design notes.

- You can also find information in my old devlogs, but it's somewhat spread out instead of written in one place. This is the first post from 2024 that gives most context and it's still relevant regardless that plot, lore and character details had changed multiple times during brainstorm: https://itch.io/blog/680418/dev-announcements-i-want-to-make-an-otome-vn-this-year It's almost like opening a time capsule and while there are parts I want to clarify in the future - especially on the main character because I described her in such a misleading way - it's surreal to see how the majority remained the same. I was also confused why I said I had a title at the very start, and it took some time to recall that what I had in mind is NOT the eventual title I settled on for the main VN.

Good luck to all the fellow jammers and devs out there who are still painstakingly making games in this horrible climate! 馃専

I also want to use this space to thank those who have played and supported my games. Take care! 馃挅
