It took me much longer than I thought it would, but I finally did it! I finally finished the 1.4 Dragon Roommates update. ^o^ We're so close to finishing the going on four-year old project. However I definitely want to take a break from this project, so probably won't see any updates for another year. Originally I was hoping to finish Dragon Roommates this year, but given how busy I've been lately with housework, yard work, preparing for conventions, DMing my first D&D campaign, and other irl responsibilities ... I haven't had as much time for my personal projects. Which I'm not too upset about. Most of these are good changes in my life and overall I'm pretty content with the way things are. I just have to rethink my project rotations and give myself more time to finish a project than I would've anticipated in the past to accommodate these new changes. That being said what are my plans for the rest of 2025?
For my supernatural otome vn Monster Boyfriend, I'm going to try my best to stick to my original release date of Oct 1st for releasing both the demo to the public and Chapter Two in early access on my Patreon. However given how long it's taking me to finish the latest Dragon Roommates chapter, I don't want to take any chances. Even though the first chapter of Monster Boyfriend only took me about a month and a half to complete, once again, given all the changes that have happened in my life since then, I need to take those into consideration. So my plan is to start working on this project now in the hopes that five months will be plenty of time to finalize the demo and finish writing Chapter Two. I already have a pretty detailed outline typed out as well as a list of assets I want to add to the game. I also want to redo the MC sprite (the pose bothers me) and I want to work on the GUI more. I'm pretty satisfied with the first chapter overall, but those are a couple changes I'd like to make for the demo.
For Chapter Two I'll be adding four new sprites., two new backgrounds, and at least 10 new CGs though this number might be more depending on the NSFW scenes, which I haven't touched on yet. It basically just says "insert NSFW scene here" in my outline lol.
For the record, Monster Boyfriend will be my first commercial visual novel. Still haven't decided on a price just yet, but I'm leaning towards the $10 range. I think that is a fair price given the amount of content and artwork I'm planning on doing for it. I intend to complete at least one chapter once per year, releasing each chapter into early access on Patreon around Halloween. So while non-Patreon members can still play a free demo of the game this year on Oct 1st, the actual game itself won't be released until somewhere in-between 2027-2028. There will be five chapters in total, but the fifth chapter is more of an epilogue, so may not be as lengthy as the others. The visual novel as a whole I'm expecting to be of similar size as Dragon Roommates, but higher quality and a ton more artwork, including original backgrounds drawn by myself (I used a lot of CC assets in Dragon Roommates). I still don't think my background art is on the same level as my sprite and CG artwork, but it's getting there. And it is something I would like to improve upon, and the only I can do that is by doing it myself.
Regardless, I hope you'll look forward to it! I've really been enjoying it so far. If you like supernatural elements full of suspense, mystery, and plenty of LORE with a large helping of mature romance, this will be an otome you won't want to miss!
Because I want to make sure I don't miss Monster Boyfriend's planned release date, that means Pure in Heart will be pushed back. I'm still hoping I'll get a chance to work on the next chapter sometime this year, as I've really been itching to do so, but because Pure in Heart is free and more experimental while Monster Boyfriend is commercial, it makes sense for me to prioritize Monster Boyfriend. I do know that when I do go to work on it, I may start resizing some of the assets, as I explained in my last dev log, I'm worried about the file size of the project. It's considerably large already and there's a lot more art (sprites, backgrounds, and CGs) that I'm planning on adding to it. I would rather not exceed itch.ios 1GB file size limit as I'm assuming I'd have to pay for more space. I may even end up dropping one of the chapters. Similar to Monster Boyfriend's outline, I was originally planning on having five chapters with the fifth one being a shorter epilogue chapter. But I think I might be able to tell the story I want to tell in just four. We'll see how it goes.
I'm happy to report my fiance (who is also an artist) and I did so well selling our art prints and stickers at the convention! Even better than we were anticipating, honestly. However, because we invested a lot of money into getting a display for our set up, advertisements such as a banner and business cards, not to mention an overabundance of stock, we've decided to do more than just the one. We applied to another St. Louis convention for this year, Galaxycon and we managed to get in! So Berrybus Studio will be selling once again in Oct 2025. We're looking forward to it!
Thank you to everyone who came out to see us at ASTL. We appreciate your support! ♥
That's all I have to report for now. I hope everyone has a wonderful month as we keep working towards our own personal goals ~ ^///^
