HIS LAST MACHINATION Devlog - Week 7

This week marked the finalization of significant parts of the VO workflow, all take selects, cleaning and mixing, asset implementation in-engine, bespoke flashback audio post-processing, implementing and tinkering with elements of the GUI, and doing miscellaneous in-engine work (building out CG zooms, visual sprite filters, and general-use transitions). Admittedly, I'm fairly tired whilst writing this, so the detail per day and per point will likely be somewhat limited.

April 12th

  • MAJOR MILESTONE REACHED: The final recording session for the game took place today, covering all of Valeria's dialogue! Playback from both Pietro and Abram's actors took place in-session, allowing for Valeria's actor to work off of both of them.
  • Take selects for present-state Abram concluded today; not all of those files have been comped and exported, though all of that work was completed by the end of the 13th.

April 13th

  • Session cleanup for Valeria was completed today, thus allowing for initial narrowing of take options (but not yet full take selections).
  • More deliverables were received from Elina and Ves for
  • WIP backgrounds were implemented programmatically, thus allowing for in-engine testing of certain scene transitions, particularly those into and out of flashback sequences.

April 14th

  • Audio cleanup for Abram was started today, involving the "washing" (cleaning and mixing) of Abram's dialogue in scenes 1.5, 2.2, Ending 1, and Ending 3.
  • Conceptualization for a potential teaser trailer began today; this is very low-priority/firmly a case of "If there's time at the end of the jam."

April 15th

  • Cleaning and mixing of Abram's audio continued today, encompassing scenes 2.3, 2.4A, and 2.4B
  • Flashback-Abram has not yet been post-processed due to all flashback audio post-progressing being left until the end of VO workflow

April 16th

  • All Abram audio is now mixed, cleaned, and ready for final implementation!
  • Initial UI deliverables were delivered by Rumi today! Kylie has continued working on SFX composition and sound design for various parts of the script, and Rose is also continuing to work on music.
  • Valeria's audio has now been fully compiled and exported; the cleaning and mixing process was completed for scenes 1.1 and 1.2.

April 17th

  • Scenes 1.5, 2.1, 2.2, 2.3, Ending 2, and Ending 3 for Valeria have now been cleaned and mixed, meaning that...
  • MAJOR MILESTONE REACHED: All basic cleaning and mixing for character audio is now complete!

April 18th

  • Post-processing for audio in all flashback scenes was completed!
  • More UI elements completed by Rumi were implemented, tested, and formatting accordingly:
    • Character nameboxes and the overall text box were formatted for legibility and layout.
    • Text outlines for the quick menu and character names were set and formatted; the quick menu layout was also edited for left-side alignment.
    • Visual filter definition was set for sprite-based subsections of flashback sequences.
  • Zooms and inter-CG transitions began to be implemented for flashback one (pictured below), allowing for functional "camera movement" in-engine even without panning.

(Genuine shoutout to Ves for exporting the CGs at an overscale resolution, as it allows for zooming and panning without the risk of downscaling!)
