Pixel Art 100days - Day 10 Tile Work Experiment - Lessons Learned

Today, I tried working on tile design. My goal was to capture the look and feel of a wooden floor, just like in the reference photo.

However, as you can see in the image, I wasn't able to achieve the level of realism I was hoping for.

That said, this experiment taught me an important lesson: Using only Aseprite for tile work isn’t always the most efficient approach. I discovered that combining Aseprite with a tool like Tiled makes the workflow much smoother and more effective.

By importing tiles created in Aseprite into Tiled, I was able to test and adjust the isometric layout more naturally. This method allowed me to quickly check whether the tile arrangement looked seamless and cohesive.

Moving forward, my next goals are:

  • Refining the wooden floor for a more natural look

  • Building up the walls to enhance the scene

  • Completing the unfinished stained glass windows to make the environment feel more like a cathedral
