Thank you for playing Something In The Shadows & info on what's next

Hi everyone!

So it's been about half a year since I put Something In The Shadows out, and I've been absolutely blown away by everyone's response to it. I uploaded the game on a whim, without honestly expecting anyone to play it. It makes me very happy that so many people downloaded and played something I made - and I want to thank you very much for giving it a go!

Something In The Shadows wasn't meant to be anything, really - it was a final project that I made with two classmates, Zachary Darrow and Regina Liu for our Real-Time Design class. We had about a month and a half to get a game out - I was a makeshift environment artist/coder on our 'team', responsible for texturing, lighting and FX, as well as coding and sound design. It was a first for all of us to work on something like this, and as a result a lot of our work is imperfect and, in some cases like with the game's code and behavior, straight-up broken half the time. However, it was an amazing learning experience and the fact that anyone played this at all honestly touches my heart. Thank you so much.

In other news, next year will be my last year at my school, the Rochester Institute of Technology, which means that I have to make a capstone project. I'm making a new game! Since it will be made, similarly to Something In The Shadows, with software provided by the school with educational licenses, it will be 100% free, like my last one.

It's going to be very different from SITS, pretty much nothing alike. But I'm going to make something that is very close and precious to my heart - please look forward to it.

If you're looking for more regular updates from me, I have a twitter, @matts_mouth, where i post a lot of my work outside of straight-up making games, and I'll be posting some development updates once I feel comfortable showing things about my new project!

Thanks so much if you're reading this, and have a great day!!

- Matt
