Hi everyone!
Sorry for the lack of posts last week, real life has been getting in the way. Work has been busy, putting in extra hours and we had some system issues as well that took up most of the normal free time that I normally would have at work and also exhausted me. I also found out that my step-grandmother passed away. She was a very nice woman, while it wasn't unexpected it would've been nice to have one more Christmas and I believe her birthday was coming up in a few months also. She was 101 and when I started to think about what she saw in her lifetime it was bewildering. She was born in Slovakia and I know lived there a bit, I'm not sure but i believe they came to America just before war broke out. So she would have lived through two pandemics, Polio, the Great Depression, the rise of the Nazi party, the Holocaust, World War II, two atomic bombs, the rise of the Soviet Union, the Korean War, the Cuban Missile Crisis, been alive when most houses didn't have electricity or indoor plumbing, the invention of the television, railroads switching from steam to diesel, nuclear power, the sound barrier being broken, commercial flight becoming the norm, the Space Race, humans landing on the moon, the civil rights movement, the Kennedy Assassination, the Vietnam War, Watergate, the gas crisis, the Iran hostage crisis, Three Mile Island, Skylab, Mir, the first flight of the space shuttle, the Challenger Disaster, Chernobyl, The fall of the Soviet Union, the tearing down of the berlin wall, the internet, satellite tv, the Space Shuttle Columbia disaster, 9-11, and that just takes us to 2001. I Could go on further, but I already know I missed plenty and didn't even mention the changes in music, television and movies. We asked her one time, what she thought was the most influential thing she remembers and she said it was the television. She said nothing helped change the world like TV did. From civil rights, to war to Watergate.
Anyway, now that I'm done rambling about that, here's what's going in the Dark. I have the story completed, all the images are in. I need to work on transitions and find and add music. I also need to reorganize my script somehow, I discovered that while it's nice to use Ren Py Maker to layout the framework for everything there is a flaw in it that has slowed my progress considerably. Ren Py Maker has different "Meshes" that you label to keep things easier to follow. Think of the as tabs. I have a global tab that holds all my character data, one for the main game and one for all the menus (AKA questions.) The problem I have ran into is because of these. I normally layout everything then export the script. Once I have the script I manually add transitions, music, additional photos, additional dialogue and do all my grammar and spelling corrections there. Every time I add to the game in Ren Py Maker, I put a comment saying what has been added and the date. Well, I found out that when the script exports, it just tosses the menus anywhere it wants to. Not a big deal since they all have labels and are called to. Generally I would copy and paste the new into my existing script than do all the above steps. This time around, since its a more complicated script, I'm having issues deciding where to put what. So I've been spending time on that. I am still hoping to get it out this week, hopefully Friday.
Thanks for all your patience and support!
John
