Lesson: When I was designing the Perils of Portal Lake campaign setting, it was always top of mind that no matter how good your writing is, it will be the art that breathes life into your story and what people will look at first.  To help out the artists, it occurred to me that having a set of standard reference mice would both help the artists and also the readers.  This was one of the hooks of Dragonlance, where people were emotionally drawn to Tanis, Laurana, etc.   When you create your RPG, it's something you may want to consider.
