Project Stargazer - Night Sky and Random Stars

So here I am with the first ever devlog for a small game I am currently working on called Project Stargazer, At least in till I can come up with a more interesting name this is what I'll call it.

I decided to write this devlog to not only share my experience developing this small game but to try and keep track of my progress and keep myself motivated.

This will be the first game I've made with this Godot an I only really intend for this game to be a small 5-10 minute experience played in the web browser. Even though I'm no artist I'll be trying my hand at that also.

Game Description :

You play as an astronomer alone in his observatory who, while observing the stars accidentally makes contact with a cosmic entity. now strange symbols appear in the sky, and in order to appease this cosmic entity the astronomer must decipher these symbols before the entity claims their soul.

Gameplay mechanics:

  • The player is presented with a night sky filled with stars that occasionally form eldritch symbols.
  • The player must click on the correct stars in the correct order to "close" the symbol loop before to many symbols appear in the sky
  • The game becomes harder the more symbols the player "Closes"
  • If the player fails to "close" all the symbols in the sky the lose event occurs triggering a cosmic horror event ending the game

Mechanics Breakdown

  1. Night Sky and Stars
    • Mechanic : The night sky is a background filled with randomly placed stars as static points
    • Implementation :
    • Create a sky scene with randomly placed stars spread across the view port
    • Stars are represented as nodes containing a star sprite and collision detection for mouse clicks

Here is a screen shot of what I ended up with, I know its not much to look at at the moment and It's by no means a playable prototype but I'm writing these logs as I go along and posting at each "milestone" I guess you could call them.  Hopefully I'll have more to share with you all tomorrow.
