Hello again! To anyone new here, I'm Arrin(yes, I spelled that right), and I do game development as a hobby. I have a team of people that helps me with the stuff I'm bad at(see the end of this dev log). I honestly didn't do all that much this week, I got distracted by a few things( I partially blame the person who let me borrow Tress of the Emerald Sea). I mainly added a lot of polish to the game.
The first thing I added was some simple particles for when you dash. I put put a screenshot here, but it's sort of hard to capture in a picture, so there will be a video a bit later in the log.
The second thing I added was the groundwork for spirit tomes.
Spirit tomes(as imagined now) will be one of the big things that drive the plot of the game. They are books made of the memories of either people or the maze. These memories will have information about the maze and the different sections of the maze, along with the people inside it. These, along with character dialogue, will guide the player to leave the safety of the crescent isle and venture into the maze searching for a chance to escape the underworld and deal with some unfinished business. The spirit tomes will help teach Duncan and the player a few lessons along the way. As with most things in this game, this is all subject to change, especially the bad texture I made in just a few minutes.
The third thing I added was I made it so that when you smashed, there was a visual indication of the cool down. I also remade the textures for the yell and smash buttons so that they weren't just blue boxes. Now they're slightly more detailed blue boxes!
In this video you can also see the very simple dash particles I mentioned earlier. As I said, I didn't do much this week, but I'm hoping to get a lot more work done this coming week.
The last thing I wanted to do was give a shoutout to my team! I'm using their online profile names for privacy reasons.
Asta Workboy does some of the art for the game. If something looks good, I'd be willing to bet he drew it. Here is the link to his youtube channel, where he streams video games occasionally.
The next person is my music guy, Exodrakalex! I haven't put too much effort and thought into added audio to the game, so you guys haven't heard any of the stuff he's made.
The last person that I wanted to give a shoutout to hasn't gotten back to me yet about the permissions and stuff, so we are just going to call them Charlie(not their real name). They have done all of the world building for the surprisingly expansive world we have put together. They have made the different cultures for eleven different nations on an entire continent, and has put together just as many different species of people and how they all think of each other. For fun.
Anyway, until next week, bye!
