We are so excited to *officially* announce the first game from Impossibly Creative Games, Bug Squashers! Built for the Nintendo Entertainment System, Bug Squashers is a platformer set in the digitized world inside computers. Mashing together two classics of the 80s and 90s, Super Mario Bros. 3 and Tron, our game stars Iggy, a familiar-looking dragon who builds and fixes websites in a unique way - by going into the digital world to squash bugs! Complete tasks, build projects for clients, and solve problems by directly tackling the game's levels and ridding the code of those pesky bugs with classic run-and-jump gameplay.
Despite the retro aesthetic and limited buttons of NES hardware, Bug Squashers will feature more than bouncing off the heads of cybernetic creepy-crawlies. The platforming genre has evolved *a bit* in the 40 years since the NES first came to the United States and we are bringing some of those enhanced movement abilities like air dashes and wall jumps along with trickier platforming to the classic console.
Bug Squashers is being built from the ground up to run on real NES hardware. We're using the incredible NESMaker toolset to make sure we stick to the limitations of what the NES can do. When we do release, the game will be available for purchase digitally as an NES ROM and a Kickstarter campaign will launch to fund a potential physical release. We will also release a free demo for those needing a little extra convincing before they start their bug-squashing journey.
As the game is still in early development, we don't have a concrete release date, but we'll be sharing bi-weekly updates as we continue to build the game. Expect a variety of devlogs, videos, and more on our website, Itch, and all of our social platforms. In fact, our first devlog launches this weekend!
Until then, stay tuned and get ready to squash some bugs!
